Dorothy G. “Dot” Puckett of Whitmire went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2012. Her life serves as a testimony to her devout Christian beliefs. Dorothy was a beautiful woman inside and out. She always had a smile and word of encouragement. She loved life, she loved her family and she loved the Lord.
A visitation were held on Wednesday from 12 noon to 1:00 PM at the Whitmire Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Graveside funeral services were conducted in the Whitmire Cemetery on Wednesday, July 19, 2012 at 2:00 PM by Pastor Eddie Duncan and Pastor Ray Massey.
Born April 5, 1927 in Lee County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Cora Hurd Gilliam and H. Wayland Gilliam. She was married for 59 years to Otis Woodrow Puckett.
Dorothy worked for many years at the J.P. Stevens Whitmire Plant, for ten years as a buyer for Belk Department Stores in Whitmire and lastly for 20 years at Cone Mills in Carlisle as a lab technician.
She was a faithful member of Whitmire Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Those left to cherish Dorothy’s loving Christian memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Puckett Temple and Joseph Marshall Temple, Jr. of Charleston; her grandson Christopher Jason Temple of Columbia; her step grandson, Joseph Marshall Temple III of Concord, NC; sisters, Ethel G. Griffin of Nintey Six, Elsie Mae Osborne of Whitmire, Celesten (Tenny) Privette of Simpsonville; sister-in-law, Gloria Strickland Gilliam of Whitmire; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Daryl Gilliam and her sister, Thelma Gilliam Cole.
Memorials may be made in Dot’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale St., Memphis TN 38105
