Julia Myers Floyd
October 29, 2005

Julia Myers Floyd, widow of Dr. John “Jack” Spearman Floyd, III, entered into eternal rest Saturday, October 29,2005.
Born in Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Charlotte Roberts Myers. She lived her early years in Charleston, SC, graduating from Bishop England High School and St. Francis Xavier Hospital School of nursing.
After marriage to Dr. Floyd, they spent several years at Barber’s Point Naval Station, Hawaii, Great Lakes Naval Station, and Charleston Naval Base while Dr. Floyd was serving his country with the United States Navy. They remained in Charleston where she worked for many years with Dr. Floyd in his private practice. Moving to Newberry in 1983, she continued to assist him with his practice. Following his death in 1989, she eventually returned to nursing and was employed for several years with J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home until her retirement in 2000. Her remaining years were spent residing in Silverstreet with her son Frank.
Mrs. Floyd is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Steven Gaines (Charlotte) of Columbus, Ohio and daughter Julia Ann F. Serio of Newberry; two sons John S. Floyd, IV of Prosperity and Frank M. Floyd and his fiancée, Brandi L. Hill of Silverstreet; 11 grandchildren; Rebecca, Christopher, Daniel, and Eric Gaines, Matthew, Timothy, Nicole, Joseph, and Lucy Floyd, Jonathan and Ashley Serio; one great-grandchild Britlyn Serio; one brother; Beaufort Myers of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and a sister; Martha M. Thiel of New Orleans, LA.
The family also wishes to gratefully acknowledge her caring and compassionate hospice nurse, Richard Cates.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Trinity United Methodist Church by Rev. Hugh Bickley. Entombment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family was at the home of Frank and Brandi, 1139 Main St., Silverstreet, SC.
Pallbearers were Franklin Joseph Floyd, Jonathan Anthony Serio, Christopher Thomas Gaines, Daniel Reichart Gaines, William Clary Floyd, Jr., and Matthew Wayne Floyd.

Christian Keith and Riley Keith, infant children of M. Chris. and Tasha Crumpton Keith, died Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the Richland Palmetto Hospital.
Besides their parents of Newberry, they are survived by their maternal grandparents, Theresa Burkhalter of Whitmire and Mike and Kathy Crumpton of Whitmire; paternal grandparents, Kathy and Eddie Prather of Newberry and Michael R. Keith of Jonesville; maternal great grandparents Betsy Crumpton of Whitmire and the late Thomas L. “Chris” Crumpton and Bobby and Ellen Burkhalter of Newberry; paternal great grandparents, Janie Brown of Newberry and the late Alvin York “Bill” Brown and Jack and Grace Keith of Union; and maternal great great Grandmother, Martha Attaway of Greenwood.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Horace Weathers.

Jimmie S. Milstead

Jimmie S. Milstead, 81, died Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at White Oak Manor.
Mr. Milstead was born on October 22, 1924 in Newberry, a son of the late James J. and Ava Addison Milstead. He was a Navy veteran of WW II and he was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church and the Destroyer Escort Association.
Mr. Milstead is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Margaret Wood Milstead of Chapin; a son and daughter-in-law Timothy Wood and Christine Webb Milstead of Newberry; two sisters, Vernell M. Cromer and Dorothy M. Turner both of Newberry; and two grandchildren, Chris and Amy Milstead of Pomaria and Bryan Milstead of Newberry.
Graveside funeral service were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church Cemetery by the Rev. Paul Wallner.

Mattie Lynn "Booty" Trammell

Mattie Lynn “Booty” Trammell, 31, of 2012 Piedmont Street, Newberry, died Monday, October 24, 2005.
Miss Trammell was born in Newberry, a daughter of Cynthia Beach Trammell and the late John R. Trammell. She was a 1992 graduate of Newberry High School and was well loved by all that knew her.
Miss. Trammell is survived by her mother of the home; three sisters, Kelly M. Trammell, Teresa T. Giles and Wendy R. Amick all of Newberry; one brother, Johnny L. Trammell of Newberry; a nephew, Scott Amick of Newberry; a devoted aunt, Becky Greene of Newberry; and a number of aunts and uncles of Union and Newberry.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 PM Tursday at Whitaker Funeral Home. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family did receive friends from to 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

Sudie Kibler Metts

Sudie Kibler Metts, 96, of 3622 St. Phillip’s Church Road, Newberry, wife of J. Louie Metts, died Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Metts was born on August 29, 1909 in Newberry County, a daughter of the late L. Will and Vinnie Ruff Kibler. She was a life long and faithful member of St. Phillip’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the B Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Metts was a faithful mother and wife and is survived by her husband of 59 years; two sons and daughters–in-law, Steve and Gayle Metts of Newberry and Tim and Kathy Metts of Little Mountain; two sisters, Rebecca Driggers of Newberry and Kathryn Mills of Saluda; one brother, Earl Kibler of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren, Chris Metts, Joe Metts, Douglas Metts, John Metts, Blake Metts, Meredith Fulmer, and Nicole Fulmer; and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Metts.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday at St. Phillips Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Monday at Whitaker Funeral Home

Elizabeth Blackwell Johnson
October 23, 2005

Elizabeth Blackwell Johnson, 87, devoted wife of the late Pope Duncan Johnson, Jr., died peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mother of three, grandmother of nine, and great grandmother of 10, she lived a selfless life, devoted to the love and well being of her family, who loved her dearly in return. Her life was a shining example of all that a wife, homemaker and mother should be.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Lincolnton, GA, a daughter of the late Gordon and Sarah Tiller Blackwell. She lived in Newberry for 70 years and leaves many friends who will remember her humor, kindness and sweet nature. She was a lifelong Baptist and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newberry.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her sons and daughter and their spouses, Elizabeth J. and Robert Kohn, Pope D. and Marian H. Johnson, III, and Gordon and Anne Johnson; her sister-in-law, Edna Kirkegard, and her nine grandchildren, Renee’ Kohn, Alan Kohn, Eleanor Brown, Stephanie Blakeman, Duncan Johnson, IV, James Johnson, Mary Shepherd, Laurie Cagle, and Blackwell Johnson; and her loving great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Newberry, S.C. by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon.
The family did receive friends at Mrs. Johnson’s home, 2207 Murray St., Newberry from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, October 24, 2005.

Margaret Merchant Folk, 76, of 2221 Glenn Street, Newberry, wife of J. Edward Folk died Friday, October 21, 2005 at the J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Mrs. Folk was born on August 23, 1929 in Newberry, a daughter of the late M. Brabham and Loulee Cole Merchant. She was a retired employee of BellSouth. She was a member of Beth-Eden Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A, Telephone Pioneers of America, and was a former member of Town and Country Garden Club.
Mrs. Folk is survived by her husband of 58 years of the home; a sister, Elberta Hester of Newberry; three nieces, Ruby (James) Phibbs of Newberry, Patricia Folk (Dale) Greene of Hampton, VA, and Loraine (Leland) Minick Martin of Greenwood; three nephews, Billy Ray (Margaret) Hester of Newberry; Brabham (Ann) Hester of Prosperity and Chevis Franklin (Kathy); a special great nephew, Jimmie (Cassandra) Phibbs of Prosperity; a special great great niece, Brooke Phibbs of Prosperity; and a # of great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Narvis Franklin McDaniel.
Graveside funeral services were at 2:00 P.M. Monday in Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Rodney Gunter.
The family was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Phibbs, 2210 Glenn Street, Newberry.

Kathryn Seybt Sease, 88, 2718 SC Highway 202, Pomaria, widow of Julian C. Sease, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Generations of Chapin.
Mrs. Sease was born on May 3, 1917, in Newberry County, a daughter of the late G. William and Georgia Sligh Seybt, Sr. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Sease is survived by a sister, Alma S. Waites of Columbia; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Lurleen Seybt of Pomaria; and four nieces and nephews, Alex Theriot, Larry Seybt, Judy Whitman, and Jerry Suber.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Internment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was from 5:30 to 6:30 P. M. Saturday at the funeral home. The family was at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Seybt, 2701 Highway 202, Pomaria.

Nell Ruff Dominick, 93, formerly of 942 Broad River Road, Columbia, widow of Teddy P. Dominick, Sr., died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Dominick was born on March 6, 1912 in Newberry County, a daughter of the late J. Caldwell and Pauline Nance Ruff. She was a graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing and was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Columbia
Mrs. Dominick is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, LaNelle and Robert Barber of Charleston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Teddy P. and Laura Dominick of Prosperity and George W. and Sheryl Dominick of Newberry; two sisters, Estelle Young of Asheville, N.C. and Geraldine Harmon of Newberry; eight grandchildren, Angela Dee Bradley, Kristin Bryan, Teddy Parker Dominick, III, Hope McIntosh, Matt Barber, Shawn Taylor, Amanda Coleman, and Jane West; and fourteen great granddchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Frances George and Marquerette Altig and a brother, John Caldwell Ruff, Jr.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at St. Andrews Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Trump. Interment was in St. Andrews Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation was from 5:30 to 7:30 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

Ned T. Livingston

Ned T. Livingston, 78, of 3254 Nance Street, Newberry, widower of Sue White Livingston, died Friday, October 07, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Livingston was born on November 6, 1926 in Newberry, a son of the late Jacob and Bertha Summers Livingston. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired employee of Greenwood Mills, Joanna Plant and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church.
Mr. Livingston is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Eve L. and Wayne Kneece of Newberry, and Kay L. and Steve Reeves, Jr. of Greenwood; three sisters, Sallie Nicholson of Columbia, Ramah Ward of Rock Hill, and Carolyn Long of Florence; a sister-in-law, Dora Sue Livingston of Newberry; a brother, Bobby Livingston of Trenton; and five grandchildren, Robert W. Kneece, Jr. and Jason T. Kneece both of Newberry, Marie Richardson, Jason Reeves, and Ragen Reeves all of Greenwood. He was predeased by a granddaughter, Hope Kneece.
Visitation was from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family was at the home of Mr. Robert Kneece, 3260 Nance Street, Newberry.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Robert Kasting. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Francis Joseph McArthur

Francis Joseph McArthur, 95, of 1439 B. Main Street, Little Mountain, widow of Jeanne Jane Moderacki McArthur, died Thursday, October 6, 2005, at White Oak Manor.
Mr. McArthur was born on October 25, 1910 in New York, New York, a son of the late Edward and Catherine Cochoran McArthur. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin.
Mr. McArthur is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Gerard (Jerry) Catapano of Pinehurst, NC and Jane and Henry (Hank) Bufkin of Little Mountain; and five grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Rody Conlon, Wayne and Laurie Conlon, Daniel and Audrey Bufkin, Michael Bufkin, and Jeanne Bufkin; and two great grandchildren, Kevin Conlon and Alyssa Bufkin. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth McArthur and three brothers, Robert McArthur, Alfred McArthur, and Harold McArthur.
Funeral Mass were offered at 2:00 P. M. Saturday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church by the Father Andrew Vollkommer and Reverend Mr. Joseph Biviano. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Rosary was recited at 7:00 P. M. Friday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Visitation will follow the Rosary and last until 9:00 P.M.

Harriet Clarkson Hamm, 86, of 2006 Springfield Circle, wife of D. H. Hamm, Jr., died Wednesday, October 5,2005 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs.Hamm was born August 14, 1919, in Newberry, a daughter of the late Rev. Geradus F. and Nancy Ansel Clarkson. She was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church and the Nancy Clarkson Circle.
Mrs. Hamm is survived by her husband of Newberry; a daughter, Susan Hamm Davis of Charleston; a son and daughter-in-law, D. H. and Martha “Mot” Hamm, III of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Margaret Clarkson Welborn of Anderson; and a brother, Gordon F. Clarkson of Newberry; two grandchildren, E. Shell Hamm Graham and D. H. Hamm, IV, both of Myrtle Beach; and a great granddaughter, Cameron.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 11:00 A. M at Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eddie Taylor. Interment was in the Prosperity Cemetery.
The family did receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 P. M. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

Peace McElveen Fulmer, 86, formerly of 7808 SC Hwy 395, widow of Lloyd Carlisle Fulmer, died Sunday, October 2, 2005 at the Veranda in Roswell, GA.
Mrs. Fulmer was born in Charleston, a daughter of the late Henry M. and Roberta Welch McElveen. Mrs. Fulmer was a member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church and a former member of the Newberry Fine Arts Club.
Mrs. Fulmer is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Fulmer and John Wall, III of Alpharetta, GA and Susan L. Fulmer of Columbia; a son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd C. and Sarah Fulmer, Jr. of Lilburn, GA; a sister, Margaret McElveen of Columbia; three grandchildren and spouses, John H. “Bert”and Donna Wall, IV of Acworth, GA, Catherine Wall and Nick Nunziata of Alpharetta, GA, and Jonathan C. Fulmer and Alison of Anderson; three great grandchildren, Steven Wall, Sofia Nunziata, and Logan Fulmer. She was predeceased by a brother, Moody McElveen.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Weaver, Rev Kathy Harris, and Rev. Gary Loadholt. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
