Nettie C. Counts
October 25, 2006

Nettie C. Counts, 84, of 1613 Nance St., Newberry, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at White Oak Manor.
Mrs. Counts was born on June 9, 1922 in Newberry County, a daughter of the late Claude L. and Bessie Enlow Counts. She was a retire employee of J.P. Stevens Co. and a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, Little Mountain.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lanel C. and Wayne Crawford of Newbery. She was predeceased by six brothers, Edgar Counts, Luther Counts, Wilbur Counts, Cecil Counts, Linwood Counts, and Thomas Counts and four sistrers Lola Farr, Francis Counts, Freddie Counts, and Lillian Counts.
Funeral services was conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday at O’Neal St. United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kem Thomas and the Rev Glenn Mosteller. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens
Visitation was from 5:00 to 6:30 PM Friday at the funeral home. The family was at residence of Nadine Amick, 1815 Glenn St. Ext.

Doris Newell Stewart
October 24, 2006

Doris Newell Stewart, 86, of 2020 Harrington St., Newbery, widow of M. Bradford Stewart, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Stewart was born in Bolton, NC, a daughter of the late Rufus and Daisy Dowless Newell. She was a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, a former member of Lillington Presbyterian Church, a member of the Creative Arts Club and the Fine Arts Club.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ilene S. and Frank Partridge of Newberry; a son, Ray B. Stewart of Clermont Harbor, MS; two grandchildren Allison Partridge (Griffin) Beckham of Greenwood and Troup Partridge of Newberry; and a granddaughter-in-law, Meredith Nock Partridge and a great granddaughter, Nancy Stewart Partridge both of Sumter.
Funeral services were conducted at 12 Noon Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Mitch Van Metre. Interment was at 12 Noon Saturday in the Flat Branch Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Bunnlevel, NC.
Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home and the family was at the residence her daughter, 2029 Harrington St. Newberry.

William Meadors Minick
October 24, 2006

William Meadors Minick, of 104 Kwanzan Dr., Lexington, formerly of Kinards, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. Minick was born on May 1, 1922 in Saluda County, a son of the late Olin W. and Inez Shaw Minick. He was an Army veteran of WW II having served with the 83rd Inf. Div. in the European Theatre, 5 major Campaigns and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for Action against the Enemy in the ETO. He retired from the S.C. National Guard with the rank of Major.
He was an Alumnus of Newberry College and a retired businessman and tax accountant.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Saluda and a former member and Elder of Little River Dominick Presbyterian Church.
He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 24, member of the 40& 8, member and Past Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose, member and Executive Board member of the 83rd Inf. Div. Association, member and Secretary of the Newberry Co. Review and Appeals Board since it's inception in 1969, member of the National Guard Association of S.C. and the U.S., and a member of the Saluda Lions Club.
He was twice married, first to the late Mildred Wallenzine Minick and second to Grace Prater Minick of Lexington. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters Brenda Frazier and husband Rhett of Newberry, Elaine Cornwell and her husband Woody of Dalton, GA and Sandra Minick and Bob Brooks of Columbia; a son, T. Wayne Minick of Columbia; two sisters Mary M Nabors of Laurens and Rae M. Caveleri of Evans, GA; seven grandchildren, Woody Cornwell, Jr., Mark (Kelly) Cornwell, John Rhett (Gready) Frazier, Julianne (Joe) Reynolds, William Frazier, Stephenie (Scott) Gugel, and Sam (Gill) Minick; five great grandchildren, Rhett, Riley and Lockwood Frazier and Frazier and Copeland Reynolds; three step-children, Sherry (Wesley) Murphy of Seneca, Rusty (Deborah) Prater of Edgefield, and Kim (Jeremy) Hunt of Lexington; nine step grandchildren, Ashli Murphy, Christi (Jonathan) Williams, Chanda (Tim) Pye, Victoria, Nicholas, and Nicole Prater, Joseph and Prater Street, and Reid Hunt; and 4 step- great grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Steve, Joe Robert, Johnie and Billy Minick and three sisters, Irene Crapps, Nell Betchman and Lillie Minick.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00pm, Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Saluda, SC by the Rev. Tom Norrell and Rev. Nels Ledwell. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.

Dottie Krell Foshee Holtzclaw
October 14, 2006

Dottie Krell Foshee Holtzclaw, 97, formerly of Clinton, widow of the late Eugene H. Foshee and John G. Holtzclaw, died Saturday, October 14, 2006, in Brian Center of St. Andrews.
Mrs. Holtclaw was born on November 8,1908 in Prosperity, a daughter of the late George F. and Lillie Ann Shealy Krell. She was a retired cottage parent, having served for over 30 years with Whitten Center in Clinton and was a member of Bellview Baptist Church of Laurens, SC.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Foshee Hamilton of Columbia; a son, Paul H.(Rosemary) Foshee of Clinton; two step-daughters, Irene F. Brooks of Newberry, and Ruth Hughes of Laurens; a step-son, Pinckney Holtzclaw of Clinton; five grandchildren, Wayne (Karen) Hamilton, Becky (Howard) Parnell, Wanda Foshee, Michael (Win-Lee) Foshee and Sherri (Mark) Davis; eleven great-grandchildren and a number of step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her eleven siblings.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Bellview Baptist Church, Laurens by Rev. Barry James and Rev. Ossie Deese. Interment was in Soule Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family did receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Ralph L. Cannon
October 4, 2006

Ralph L. Cannon, 91, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006. He was the husband of the late Jeanette Schumpert Cannon and the oldest son of the late Rufus and Rosa Belle Rauch Cannon. He was born February 8, 1915 in Chapin and was a lifelong member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church, Chapin, where he served in various offices and committees in the church. He was a charter member of Lutheran Men in Mission, Primetimers and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a long time employee of Cannon Construction Company in Newberry and was proud to have been the construction superintendent of many homes, churches and businesses in and around Newberry, Greenwood, Laurens, and Lexington. On retiring, he spent his time running his small farm, growing a vegetable garden and making many articles in his wood-working shop. He had an excellent memory and enjoyed sharing stories of his life.
Mr. Cannon is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Margie and Earl Lindler, Evelyn and Wayne Stoudemire and Sadie K. and Tommy Benton; a son and daughter-in-law; Wayne and Jennifer Cannon all of Chapin; nine grandchildren and spouses, Kenneth (Libby) Lindler, Aubrey (Lisa) Lindler, Carol S. (Gibson) Solomons, Dale (Wendy) Stoudemire, Daran (Michelle) Stoudemire, Wanda K. (Mel) Harrill, Susan K. (Ken) Hawkins, Wendy C. (Mike) Bell, and Clay (Tracy) Cannon; sixteen great grandchildren, Kristina and Matthew Lindler, Cody and Jesse Lindler, Karen and Allen Solomons, Kelly, Nathan and Sarah Stoudemire, Dylan Stoudemire, Lauren and Kristen Harrill, Addison Hawkins, Jared and Reece Bell, and Mahala Cannon; a step great-grand daughter, Bridgette H. Hayden, a sister, Dorothy C. (L. J.) Long of Prosperity; a brother, Claude Cannon of Chapin. He was predeceased by a sister; Eula Mae C. King and two brothers; Ellis Cannon and Curtis Cannon and a son-in-law, Donald Koon.
Funeral services were held 11:00 A. M. Saturday at Saint Peter Lutheran Church, Chapin by the Rev. David Tholstrup with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M. Friday at the funeral home.
