John Elmer Whitman
February 27, 2006

John Elmer Whitman, 66, of Silverstreet, died Monday, February 27, 2006 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Whitman was born on May 11, 1939 in Prosperity, SC, a son of the late John Luther and Clarice Dominick Whitman. He was a retired employee of Old School Manufacturing Company and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Mr. Whitman is survived by his wife, Judith Suber Whitman of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cheryl and Danny Metts of Little Mountain and Rhonda and Larry Fulmer and Tanya Alveshire, all of Newberry; a son Johnny Whitman, of Silverstreet; two sisters, JoAnn Fulmer and Edith McCartha both of Prosperity; a brother, David Whitman of Newberry; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Loraine McCartha and Johnette Hipp.
Funeral services were conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family was at the residence, 986 Saluda River Road and will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Voight Dominick, Wilford Dominick, Dean Hipp, Wade Hipp, Carl Fulmer and Kevin Fulmer.

Huey A. “Pee Wee” Tarver
February 22, 2006

Huey A. “Pee Wee” Tarver, 78, of 967 Lindsay Circle, Newberry died Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Tarver was born on June 14, 1927 in Dothan, AL, a son of the late Alfred D. and Lucille Chancey Tarver. He was an Air Force veteran of WW II and was a retired employee of Greenwood Mills, Joanna Plant. He was a member of Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Newberry Country Club.
Mr. Tarver is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy T. and Charles W. Clinton of Newberry; a son and daughter-in-law, Huey R. “Rudie” and Nancy Frick Tarver of Prosperity; two brothers, James L. Tarver of Newberry and Johnny Tarver of Dothan, AL; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Mavis Crumpton Tarver and a brother, George Ray Tarver.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 P.M. Friday at the Calvary Pentecostal Church by the Rev. Charles Clinton and Rev. Mitchel Burriss. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens..
Visitation was from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home and the family will be at his residence, 967 Lindsay Circle.
Active pallbearers were Toby Tarver, Al Tarver, Timmy Smith, Mike Crumpton, Ned Brewer, Carlton Humphries, Marvin Brewer, Frank Brewer, Tommy Crumpton, Tharon Humphries, and Ollie Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Thomas "Snow" Ellison, Sam Frye, Richard Willingham, and Earl Dominick..

Barbara Maroney Tansil
February 21, 2006

Barbara Maroney Tansil, 65, of 1221 Pa Metts Road, Prosperity, widow of George D. Tansil, died Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Tansil was born on January 18, 1941 in Batesburg, a daughter of the late Elton Maroney and Lillian Puckey Maroney Plunkett. She participated in the Carolina Q Cup Cook-Off and was well known for her catering service in her community and with local churches.
Mrs. Tansil is survived by her companion, James Tanner of Prosperity; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Trina Poston of Columbia: a sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Charlie Evenich of Sumter; four grandsons, Zachary Poston, Andrew Poston, Matthew Poston, and Daniel Poston.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 3:30 P.M. Thursday in Chapin United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family was at the residence, 1221 Pa Metts Road, Prosperity.

M. Dean Boozer

M. Dean Boozer, 43, of 2240 Clara Brown Road, Prosperity, died Monday, February 13, 2006.
Mr. Boozer was born on August 28, 1962 in Newberry the son of Jodie White Boozer Black and the late William T. “Bill” Boozer. He was an employee of Sunrise Auto Supply. He was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, Prosperity Masonic Lodge #115 AFM and a former member of the Newberry Jaycees
Mr. Boozer is survived by his mother and step-father, Jodie and George Black of Newberry; two step-sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynn and Cyril Sheppard of Prosperity and Ann and Grady Wicker of Newberry; two step-brothers and a sister-in-law, Dean Black and Randy and Susan Black all of Newberry; two aunts, Faye Gore and Juanita Duffie both of Newberry; two uncles, J. K. White of Prosperity and Vernon Boozer of Newberry; and a number of cousins.
Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 P.M. Thursday at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by Rev. Robert J. Kasting, Rev. Dr. Robert McCollum, and Rev. Elizabeth Platts.. Interment was in the Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family did receive friends, from 2:00 to 3:00 P. M. and from 6:30 to 8:30 P. M. with Masonic Rites on Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will be at his residence 2240 Clara Brown Road, Prosperity.

Dolly Ann Jeffcoat Lucas

Dolly Ann Jeffcoat Lucas, 69, of 2432 Fair Ave, Newberry, wife of James H. “Jay” Lucas died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at the Providence Hospital.
Mrs. Lucas was born on November 2, 1936 in Richland County a daughter of the late Elmer W. “Buck” and Willie Mae Crolley Jeffcoat. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses South Congregation of Newberry. She was a wife, beloved mother and friend to all.
Mrs. Lucas is survived by her husband of Newberry; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Keith and Martha Lucas, David and Christine Lucas and James Lucas all of Newberry, Kenny and Lynn Lucas of Whitmire and Lloyd and Laurie Lucas of Chapin; a sister, Nettie Jo Wild of Arcadia, GA; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Newberry.
Visitation was from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P. M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. The family was at the residence, 2432 Fair Avenue, Newberry.

Grover C. Bright

Grover C. Bright, 67, of 1035 Mt. Bethel Garmany Road, Newberry died Friday at the Providence Hospital.
Mr. Bright was born on August 30, 1938 in Union, a son of the late Clyde K. and Daisy Zimmerman Bright. He was a retired employee of Louis Rich.
He is survived by his wife, Alverta Moates Bright of Newberry; two daughters, Barbara Gonzalez and Renee Bright both of Newberry; a step-daughter, Barbara Goins of Newberry; a son, Grover Bright, Jr. of Newberry; a step-son, Robert Spells of Prosperity; two sisters, Joyce Wooten of Waterloo and Judy Kendrick of Newberry; two brothers, Donald Bright of Redding CA and Harold Bright of Monarch; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren one, Jessica Goins, who was raised in the home; four great-grandchildren; and one step-great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Dewayne Goins. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. The family wasat his residence.
Active pallbearers were Brad Bright, Kenneth Simon, Chris Spells, Jerry Arrowood, Don Lewis, and Kevin Spells.
