Troy W. Cotney
April 30, 2006

Troy W. Cotney, 76, of 862 Kendall Road, Newberry, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at the Lexington Medical Center.
Mr. Cotney was born on January 4, 1930 in Prosperity, a son of the late James N. and Florence Stockman Cotney. He was a retired employee of Greenwood Mills, Joanna Plant. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Amity Masonic Lodge # 87, and Hejaz Shrine Temple.
Mr. Cotney is survived by his wife, Katie Bell Derrick Cotney of Newberry; a son nd daughter-in-law, Bobby and Dianne H. Cotney of Newberry; a sister, Elizabeth C. Cohen of Ninety-Six; three brothers, Boyd Cotney of Newberry, and J.D. Cotney, and Birt Cotney, both of Prosperity; and two grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Cotney and Bryan Troy Cotney both of Newberry. He was predeceased by three sisters, Virginia Shealy, Ruby Huffstettler, and Etta Mae Dominick and three brothers, Virgil Lee Cotney, Nelson Cotney, and Ewell Cotney.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church by the Rev. Ronald Smith, The Rev. Wako Cotney, and Terry Cotney. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Bryan Troy Cotney, Terry Cotney, Wako Cotney, Dean Cotney, Toby Shealy, Steve Shealy, Melvin Dominick, Dale Dominick, and Charlie Huffstettler.

Tina Stuck Bishop
April 17, 2006

Tina Stuck Bishop, 44, 1408 Kate Street, Newberry, wife of Richard C. “Rick” Bishop, died Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Bishop was born on January 23, 1962 in Prosperity, a daughter of Charles R. and Betty Morris Stuck. She was an animal control officer with Newberry County, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Newberry. She was a collector of angels, many she made herself and was a lover of animals.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by her husband of Newberry; her parents of Newberry; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Jason Kinard of Prosperity; two sons, Chuck Bishop and Brandall Bishop of Newberry; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Steve Griffin and Kay S. and Ricky Smith, all of Pomaria; a brother and sister-in-law, Danny Ray and Ann Stuck of Prosperity; and two grandchildren, Eric Alexander Bishop and McKenzie Lynn Kinard.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday at the First Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon.
Visitation was from 5:30 to 8:00 P. M. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family was at the residence, 1408 Kate Street.

Active pallbearers were J. B. Willard, Von Dennis, Richard Hancock, Ezra Arnold, Johnny Willis, and Steve Bishop. Honorary pallbearers were Dave Shealy, Cass Peterson, Ken Oswald, Jerry Long, Mark Bishop, Scott Edgeworth and Todd Edgeworth.

Mary Pullen Edwards
April 11, 2006

Mary Pullen Edwards, 88, of Newberry, S.C., died Thursday, April 6, 2006 in White Oak Manor in Tryon.
A native of Huntingdon, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late James N. and Roe Hurt Pullen. She was the widow of William “Bill” Edwards, who died in 1977. She was a volunteer with the Newberry County Humane Society. She was a member of Eastern Star and was an avid Braves baseball fan. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Newberry.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice E. Perry (John) of Tryon; one brother, Harry Pullen (Carolyn) of Kernersville; two grandchildren, Russ Perry of Lexington, S.C. and Pam Perry Nave (Cleve) of Prosperity, S.C.; four great grandchildren, Jessice, Phillip, Rebecca and Seth Nave. She was preceded in death by a brother, George Pullen, who died in 1942.

Bernese Butler Hawkins

Bernese Butler Hawkins, 89, widow of R. Dudley Hawkins, formerly of 1319 Pearl St., Newberry, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hawkins was born on September 2, 1916 in Newberry County, a daughter of the late James Chester and Annie Belle Bowers Butler. She was a member of Epting United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of Damon International in Newberry.
Mrs. Hawkins is survived by a son-in-law, W. Ross Sessoms of Spartanburg; a sister, Lucrecia B. Driscoll of Newberry; four grandchildren Melissa Sessoms-Hamm, R. Brian Hawkins and Robbie Mundy all of Newberry, Beth Riddle of Prosperity; and eleven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Judith H. Sessoms and a son, Robert D. Hawkins, Jr.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P. M. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family did receive friends 1:00 to 2:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Barnette Wilson Sheely

Barnette Wilson Sheely, 95, widow of Lonnie Augustus Sheely, of 1005 Wilson Street, Newberry, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Pendleton, SC.
Mrs. Sheely was born on July 9, 1910 in Burke County, NC; she was a daughter of the late Louis M. and Bertha Cook Wilson. She was a retired L.P.N. with Newberry County Memorial Hospital. She was the oldest member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, George B. Cromer Sunday School Class and WELCA, Circle #4.
Mrs. Sheely is survived by a sister, Margie Bowers of Prosperity; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Burney Drake of Pendleton; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Cathy Sheely of Charlotte, NC; a daughter-in law, Barbara Sheely of Lexington; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a son, Louis Sheely.
Funeral services were conducted 2:00 P. M Monday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by Rev. Steven B. Counts. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family did receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at Whitaker Funeral Home.

Betty Jones Bundrick

Betty Jones Bundrick, 75, formerly of 1908 Piedmont Street, Newberry widow of B. Royce Bundrick, died Tuesday, April 04, 2006 at Generations of Chapin.
Mrs. Bundrick was born on January 15, 1931, in South Carolina, a daughter of the late Hoke S. and Murriel Dorn Jones. She was an employee of the Kendall Company, Mollohon Plant and Damon International and was a member Capers Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Bundrick is survived by a daughter, and son-in-law, Murriel and Clifford Shealy of Prosperity; a son, George W. Bundrick of Newberry; three sisters, Virginia Boggs of Ware Shoals, Dora Mize of Newberry; and Linda Dunn of Norfolk, VA; four brothers, Thurmond Jones of Clinton, Chris Jones of Greenville, Ernest Jones of Anderson, and Paul Jones of Newberry; three grandchildren and spouses, Corey and Julie Shealy of Prosperity, Roy and Hope Bundrick and Stephen E. Bundrick all of Newberry, two great-grandchildren, Casey Shealy Bundrick and Jesse Bundrick.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P. M. Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Terry Amick. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery, Springdale Section.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
