Allen Newton Crosson, Jr.
May 29, 2006

Allen Newton Crosson, Jr., 95, beloved husband of the late Virginia Ballentine Crosson who predeceased him in 1996, entered into rest at University Hospital, Augusta, GA, on Monday, May 29, 2006. Mr. Crosson was a farmer in Newberry County. He was a member of Newberry A.R.P. Church where he had worshipped since 1939 and a 1931 graduate of Newberry College. He was the son of the late Marie R. and Allen N. Crosson, Sr. of Prosperity.
Survivors include his son, Larry J. Crosson, Newberry, and his daughter and son-in-law Jane and Randy Robertson, Augusta, GA., sister–in-law Emma Julia B. Sease, brother-in-law and his wife J. William and Nonie Ballentine, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his friends of Springfield Place.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from the Newberry A.R.P. Church, 1701 Main Street, Newberry, with Dr. Tim Erskine and Rev. Tony Locke officiating. Interment did follow at Prosperity Cemetery, Prosperity.
The family did receive friends Tuesday afternoon, May 30, 2006 from 4-6 p.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Family and friends who were privileged to know Mr. Crosson, knew that he lived frugally so that he might be able to help others. He was faithful to the resources entrusted to his care and devoted to his community, his State, his family, and to his Lord and Savior.

Ruby Stockman Bouknight

Ruby Stockman Bouknight, 85, of 711 Pope Street, Newberry, widow of Hugh G. “Buck” Bouknight died May 29, 2006 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Bouknight was born on March 10, 1921 in Newberry County, a daughter of the late Patrick Alphus and Lilly Mills Stockman. She was a retired employee of Nobles Vending and a member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Bouknight is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Frank Hamm and Ellen and James Mack; a son and daughter-in- law, Donald and Bobbi Bouknight all of Newberry; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and William Cromer of Newberry and Dorothy and Marshall Bogan of Cayce; five grandchildren and spouses, Jamey and Kim Mack, Candace Bouknight, Nick and Casey Bouknight, Brett Hamm and Chris Bouknight; four great-grandchildren, Shay Johnson, Erica Johnson Whitney Parks, Blake Bouknight; and a number of special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Jerry Bouknight, a sister, Helen Folk and a brother, Andrew Stockman.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday at the Newberry Memorial Gardens by Rev. Kathy Harris
Visitation was from 6:30 to 8:00 P. M. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family was at the residence, 711 Pope Street.

William Jennings Wicker

William Jennings Wicker, 87, of 207 St. Albans Road, Irmo, died Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Lexington Medical Center.
Mr. Wicker was born on December 25, 1918 in Newberry; he was a son of the late Lawrence Pope and Alice Jennings Wicker. He was a retired Hospital Administrator, and a member of the Central United Methodist Church, a World War II Army veteran, American Legion Post #274 and Class of 1940, Newberry College.
Mr. Wicker is survived by his wife, Paddy McMordie Wicker; a daughter and son-in-law, Julia Anna and Charles J. Parlagreco of Ball Ground, Ga.; a son, William J. Wicker, Jr., of Ulmer; a sister, Alice Blair of Columbia; three grandchildren, Charles Joseph Parlagreco, Kevin Millar Parlagreco and Andrew Cangiamila Parlagreco; one great-granddaughter Kylee Michelle Parlageco.
Funeral services were conducted 11:00 A. M. Wednesday at the Rosemont Cemetery.
The family did receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M. Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home.

Kenneth “Kenny” Ray Osborne

Kenneth “Kenny” Ray Osborne, 45, of Albermarle, NC, died April 29, 2006 at his residence.
Mr. Osborne was born on January 16, 1961, in Fort Leonardwood, MO, a son of Theodore Scott Osborne and Betty Morris Brunson. He was an employee of Southern Pipe Company and an Army Veteran
Mr. Osborne is survived by his mother and step-father, Betty and Marvin Brunson of Norway; four brothers, David Osborne of Rockwell, NC; James Osborne of Weissport, PA, Randy and Chad Brunson both of Norway; a step-brother, Don Brunson of Swansea a number of aunts and uncles; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Hoyt and Margaret Morris.
Family funeral services were at Colony Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Thelma Bates Cotney

Thelma Bates Cotney, 82, formerly of 1560 Holland’s Landing Road, Prosperity, wife of J. D. Cotney, died Friday, May 5, 2006, at White Oak Manor, Newberry.
Mrs. Cotney was born in Williston, a daughter of the late Grover and Annie Gordan Bates and she was a retired employee of Old School Manufacturing Company. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Ladies Sunday School Class, W. M. U. and the Sunshine Club. She helped start the G. A.’s in the 1950’s and was a former Sunday School Teacher.
She was a devoted and loving wife and mother and is survived by her husband of Newberry; two daughters and sons-in-law Patricia C. and Billy McDonald and Joan and Don Moss; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wako and Frances Cotney and Terry and Ann Cotney all of Prosperity; a sister, Alma B. Cotney and sister-in-law Lola Mae Bates both of Newberry; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers, Haskell Bates, Wilbur Bates, Wallace Bates and Frank Bates and a sister, Ruth Johnson.
Funeral services were conducted 3:00 PM Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church by Rev Wako Cotney and Terry Cotney. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 P. M. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home and the family was at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Cotney, 161 Circle H Woods, Prosperity.
Memorials may be made to the Care Team, c/o Bethel Baptist Church, 2503 Bethel Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.
Active pallbearers were her grandchildren, Mark Cotney, Ron Cotney, William McDonald, Jr., Michelle C. Russo, Dale Moss, David Moss and James McDonald. Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren.

William C. Crawford, Jr.

William C. Crawford, Jr., 76, of 1156 Leita St., Newberry, died Wenesday, May 3, 2006 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Crawford was born on March 13, 1930 in Haywood Co. NC, a son of the late William Cornelius and Rosa Belle McCowan Crawford, Sr. He was a dairyman and a member of O’Neal St. United Methodist Church.
Mr. Crawford is survived by his wife, Mary Brown Crawford of Newberry; a daughter Darlene C. Garland of Whitmire; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Lanel Crawford of Newberry; six grandchildren; Lynetta Shealy, Shaun Garland, Cecilia Garland, Sheena Garland, Fred Briggs, and Virgil Briggs; and nine great grandchildren, one of the home Casey Shealy. He was predeceased by a daughter, Judy C. Shealy; two sons, William C. Crawford and Jess A. Crawford; and one grandson, Jeffery Crawford.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at O’Neal St. United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kem Thomas. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence.

Ruth Wallenzine Shealy

Ruth Wallenzine Shealy, 89, formerly of 40 Farmers Road, Newberry, widow of John Broadus Shealy, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at White Oak Manor.
Mrs. Shealy was born in Newberry County, a daughter of the late William S. and Ida Hendrix Wallenzine. She was a homemaker and helped her husband manage their dairy farm in the Bush River Community. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Shealy is survived by two grandsons, Tim Shealy and Johnny Shealy both of Newberry and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce S. Chappell; a son, John Everette Shealy; and a granddaughter, Delene C. Dickert.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church by the Rev. Rodney Gunter. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation was from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
