Steve J. Crouch, 55, of 142 Crouch Road, Kinards died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at his residence.
Mr. Crouch was born on December 27, 1951 in Joanna a son of Helen Taylor Crouch and the late Bryant Crouch. He was a retired employee of the Torrington Company and was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church..
He is survived by his mother of Kinards; his son and daughter-in-law, Chris J. and Crystal Crouch of Little Mountain; two grandchildren, Addi and Aryn Crouch; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Claudette Henderson of Lake Greenwood and Joyce and C. J. Bishop of Newberry; a brother and his wife, Ronnie and Joyce Crouch of Kinards; 4 nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in Sharon United Methodist Church by Rev. Jimmy Counts. Interment was in Pinelawn Memory Gardens
Visitation was from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

Ethel Judy O’Shields

Ethel Judy O’Shields, 87, widow of Horace O’Shields, formerly of Whitmire, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home,
She was born November 2, 1919 in Orangeburg a daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Judy. She was a retired employee of J. P. Stevens and a member of Whitmire United Methodist Church.
Mrs. O’Shields is survived by three grandchildren and spouses, Sandy and Phillip Jeter of Whitmire, Ron Eison of Roanoke, VA, and Steve and Jamie Eison of Whitmire; four great grandchildren, Blair Robertson, Carley Jeter, Cole Eison and Leanna Eison; her step mother, Marie Judy of Greenwood; and three half-brothers, Larry Judy, Donnie Judy, and Mike Judy all of Greenwood. She was predeceased by her husband, her daughter, Nadine O’Shields Eison, her son, Jimmy O’Shields and her twin brother, Edgar Judy.
Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 P.M. Monday, in Whitmire United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kelly Gilmer.
Interment was in Whitmire Cemetery.

Frank Kelly Jones, Jr.
July 28, 2007

Frank Kelly Jones, Jr. 82, of Springfield Place, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.
He was born on January 5, 1925, a son of the late Frank K and Ida Hair Jones, Sr. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Jones was retired from Tultex Corporation where he was Vice President for Manufacturing. He held several offices within the South Carolina and North Carolina Textile Manufacturers Associations. He was a member of O’Neal Street Methodist Church and served as the treasurer for a number of years.
He was a 1948 graduate of Clemson College and a loyal member of IPTAY and the Clemson Alumni Association.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Albright Jones; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Jones and H. B. Garrett of Roxboro, NC; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank Kelly and Rosie Jones, III of Lexington; a sister, Frances J. Beck of Newberry; and two grandchildren, Katie Jones and Frank K. Jones, IV.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday at O’Neal Street United Methodist Church. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

Gordon N. Clarkson
July 24, 2007

Gordon N. Clarkson, 92, of Newberry, widower of Innis Mims Clarkson, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
He was born on August 1, 1914 in Cokesbury, SC a son of the late Rev. and Mrs. G. F. Clarkson. He was a 1931 graduate of Mauldin High School and a 1935 honors graduate of Newberry College where he served as editor of “The Indian”. He was a Army Air Corp veteran of WW II serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
Following a private study of law, he was admitted to the practice of law in 1953 and practiced actively until 2003. He was a member, former deacon, Elder, church treasurer and congregational chairman of the Newberry ARP Church.
He served as past chairman of the Newberry County Planning and Zoning Commission and served 18 years on the Board of J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. He was a member and past president of Newberry Kiwanis Club with Legion of Honor for 50 years membership.. He was an avid tennis player from his teens until his late 80s.
He is survived by his daughter, Betty (Pete) Ragsdale of Newberry; two grandchildren, Michael L. Huggins of Newberry and Betsy H. Miller of Mt. Pleasant; five great-grandchildren, Jack Huggins, Ryne Huggins, London Huggins, Anna Miller and Megan Miller; and a sister, Margaret C. Welborn of Anderson.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 2:30 PM Thursday in Rosemont Cemetery by Rev. Tony Locke.
The family did receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm Wednesday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Pete Ragsdale, 2010 Harper St., Newberry.

Joe Bob Swindler

Joe Bob Swindler, 70, of Whitten Center and formerly of 1306 Third St., Newberry, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the Laurens County Hospital.
He was born on December 1, 1936 in Newberry County, a son of the late Charles J. and Ola Cromer Swindler. He was a member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dorothy S. Merchant and Donnell S. and “Buck” Minick all of Newberry and Robert Wessinger of Columbia; a brother, Harold E. “Bo” Swindler of Newberry and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara S. Wessinger.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. Walter Green. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home.

Timothy David Mauger, infant son of Kelsey and Jonathan Mauger died Sunday, July 22, 2007. He was born on July 21, 2007.
Timothy is survived by his parents of Boys Farm, Newberry, a bother and sister, Jayden and Emma Grace Mauger; maternal grandparents, Dennis and Sharon Krug of Billings, Montana and paternal grandparents, Jay and Judy Mauger of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; maternal great grandparents, Norm and Judy Cherry and Marion and Joe Krug; maternal great-great-grandmother, Avis McAmis; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday on the Boys Farm Campus by the Rev. Stephen Johns. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family welcomes you to visit them at their residence, Shealy Cottage on the Boys Farm Campus.

James Harold Brock

James Harold Brock, 83, formerly of 1610 Emory St., Whitmire, widower of Pauline Brock, died Sunday, July 15,2007 at Elizabeth House in N.C.
Mr. Brock was born in Newberry County a son of the late George E and Gertrude Crane Brock. He was retired from West Point Pepperell. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was one of the founders of Grace Baptist Church of Whitmire.
He is survived by a daughter, Sylvia Brock of Fountain Inn and two sisters, Margaret Roton and Lillian Leavell both of Newberry.
Graveside funeral services with Military Rites were conducted at 2:30 PM Thursday at Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Dorothy Reaves Shealy, 85, formerly of 425 O’Neal St. and widow of E. L. Shealy, Jr., died Saturday, July 14, 2007 at White Oak Manor.
She was born in Union County, daughter of the late Vivian Stofer and Horace L. Reaves.
She was retired from Roses Department Store after 20 years of service and was a member of Mayer Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in law, Pat S. and Donald Shealy of Prosperity, Vivian L. Shealy of Newberry and Jackie S. and Tommy Bowers of Newberry; two brothers, Max D. Reaves of Wasilla, Alaska and Wayne Reaves of Victorville, CA; and grandchildren and spouses, Craig and Jennifer Bedenbaugh of Greenville, Pamela J. Bowers of Newberry, Brian and Amanda Shealy, Bridget Shealy, Michael and Stephanie Shealy all of Prosperity, and great grandchildren, Gracelyn and Sara Shealy, Jackson and Cannon Bedenbaugh and Lexie Downes.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Donald and Betty Morris.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. R. J. Roberts and Rev. Robert Kasting. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Bowers, 2128 Walton Way, Newberry.

Gerald M. (Gerry) Reuter
July 14, 2007

Gerald M. (Gerry) Reuter, 73, of 3741 S.C. Highway 391, Prosperity, SC died Saturday, July 14, 2007 at his residence.
Mr. Reuter was born on July 22, 1933 in Lone Rock, WI, a son of the late Henry E. and Geraldine Miller Reuter.
He was a twenty year veteran of the U.S. Army serving both in the Korean War and two tours of duty in the Vietnam War.
In 1973 he founded G.M. Reuter Trucking Co. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 133 in Ridge Spring, SC and a life member and past commander of the VFW Post 6740 in Leesville, SC.
Mr. Reuter is survived by his wife, Miriam Derrick Reuter of Prosperity; three daughters, Connie Hartley of Prosperity, Phyllis M. (Aven) Martin of Leesville, and Susan (Allen) Hancock of Newberry; two sons, Marion G. (Marsha) Reuter and Bruce H. (Iris) Reuter all of Prosperity; special niece and nephew, Von and Mary Hiller and their children Jeremy Hiller and Glenn and Brandie Greenwood and Jozie; three sisters, Marjorie (Ray) Lease of Barnville, WI, Shirley Schmid of Waunakee, WI, and Rosemary Herndon of Baraboo, WI; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Reuter and a brother, Edwin H. Reuter.
Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 PM Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lowry Drennen and Pastor Roger Phillips. Interment was in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence, 3741 SC Highway 391, Prosperity.
The family wishes to express deepest gratitude to Dr. Chris Marshall and Dr. Chaudhry Mushtag and Hospice Care of Tri County.

Susan Couch Hendrix, 46, of 1784 Bush River Road, Newberry died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. She was born on July 31, 1960 in Laurens County, a daughter of Jimmy Couch and Judy Barnett Goodman. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her parents; her step mother, Faye Couch; two brothers, Carl and Cameron Couch both of Newberry; a half brother, Rusty Jones of Lexington; a half sister Michelle Couch of Joanna and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Onyx. She was predeceased by a brother, W. Stacey Couch.
Graveside funeral services was conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in Rosemont Cemetery by Rev. Brian Horton.
The family was at her mother’s residence, 1784 Bush River Road, Newberry.

W. L. "Jr." Brantley, Jr.

W. L. “Jr.” Brantley, Jr. 81, of 1140 Lee Circle, West Columbia, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at his residence.
He was born on July 25, 1925 in LaGrange, GA a son of the late William Lamar and Emma Nora Price Brantley. He was twice married, first to the late Mary Ella Powell Brantley and second to Mary Florine Wilson Brantley
Mr. Brantley was retired from Damon International and was a member of Airport Baptist Church. He was a member of Amity Masonic Lodge #87 and was an honorary life member of Lexington, Springdale, Cayce and Sinclair lodges.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Mike (Tonya) Brantley of Martinez, GA; a grandson, Jonathan Brantley; two stepdaughters, Sally (Greg) Estes of Atlanta, GA and Mary Rowe of West Columbia; two stepsons, Charles (Tracy) Bedenbaugh and Pat (Brenda) Bedenbaugh both of Lexington; sisters-in law, Sarah Powell and Rita (M.C.) Yarbrough both of Newberry ; a special nephew, Tony Powell of Newberry and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services with Masonic Rites was conducted at 11:00 AM Monday at West End Cemetery by Chaplain Greg Estes.
Visitation was from 5:30 to 7:30 PM Sunday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family was at the residence.

Rosa Lee Sims Shealy, R.N., 95, formerly of 2009 Drayton St., Newberry, widow of James H. Shealy, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
She was born on June 3, 1912 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late W. Jack and Eula Mae Blackmon Sims. She retired from the Newberry County Memorial Hospital after 46 years as a nurse. She was a member of West End Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two sons, James G. (Lois) Shealy of Newberry and Billy Jack (Ruby) Hoagland of Niceville, FL; three sisters; Eula Mae Baker, Maudell Shehane, and Pauline Hinson all of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Dawn Gould, Michelle Wright, Xenia Rushings, and Patricia Lane; and a # of great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Friday at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Larry Deeter.
Visitation was from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon Friday at the funeral home.
