Elizabeth Gnann Long
August 29, 2004

Elizabeth Gnann Long, 92, of 4593 Bush River Road, Newberry, widow of L. Kenneth Long, died Sunday, August 29, 2004 at the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Mrs. Long was born on November 29, 1911 in Stillwell, GA, a daughter of the late Alvin O. and Lena Exley Gnann. She attended Summerland College and Newberry College and received her college degree equivalency. She was a retired school teacher, having taught nine years in Georgia and 17 and ˝ years in South Carolina. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and member and officer of the Mary E. Hipp Sunday School Class. She was also a former member and officer of the Tranwood Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Long is survived by a daughter, Mary Long Thomas of Clover; a son and daughter-in-law, James Gnann and Susan Jackson Long of Clover; four grandchildren, Laura Thomas Clinton of Clover, Rebecca Thomas Suchenski of New Bern, NC, and Kenneth William Long and Robert Jackson Long both of Clover. She was predeceased by three brothers, Holland, Ernest, and Otto Gnann and three sisters, Mary G. Haigler, Ola G. Kessler, and Ruth G. Shearouse.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Elizabeth Gnann Long will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Steven Counts and the Rev. Alvin Haigler. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Mary Frances Holland
August 25, 2004

Mary Frances Elizabeth Sullivan Holland, 78, of 78 Sunview Road Prosperity, wife of Julian H. Holland died Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at her residence.
Mrs. Holland was born April 28, 1926 in Fulton County, MS, a daughter of the late Hubert L. and Virtrue Horton Wheeler Sullivan. She attended the Church of Christ and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Holland is survived by her husband of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Penny Holland and Joel Glenn Cooper of Columbia; three sons and two daughters-in-laws, Marty and Bridget Holland of West Columbia, Tommy Holland of Prosperity, and Eddy and Cindy Holland of Newberry; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, James D. Sullivan.
Funeral services for Mary Frances Elizabeth Holland will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church the Rev. Wako Cotney. Interment will be 4:30 P.M. in Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbia, S.C.
Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. on Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.

George R. “Static” Bundrick
August 16, 2004

George R. “Static” Bundrick, 85, formerly of 2313 Wheeland School Road, Little Mountain, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at Bryan V.A. Medical Center in Columbia .
Mr. Bundrick was born on May 12, 1919 in Lexington, a son of the late Bunyan A. and Maude Cannon Bundrick. He was an Army veteran of WW II and he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Mr. Bundrick is survived by his wife, Hula Rowe Bundrick of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda B. and Harvey Griffin of Silverstreet and Linda B. and Eddie Richardson of Little Mountain; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Mary Bundrick of Little Mountain and Bunyan and Vernelle Bundrick of Chapin; two sisters, Rosabelle Chapman of White Rock and Catherine Frick of Chapin; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, George E. Bundrick, two grandchildren, Martha and Alpha Griffin, and one great grandchild, Samatha Paige Kinard.
Funeral services for George R. “Static” Bundrick will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Lynn Peters and Rev. Daniel Nash. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Chapin. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Richardson, 1461 Wheeland School Road, Little Mountain.

Vernon L. Sheppard
August 11, 2004

Vernon L. Sheppard, 78, of 2903 Nance St., Newberry died Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at Palmetto Richland Hospital.
Mr. Sheppard was born on September 10, 1925 in Prosperity, a son of the late Lealon H. and Elsie Kyzer Sheppard. He was an Army veteran of WW II, having served with the 4th Infantry, 8th Regiment in the Normandy Invasion, Northern France and the Rhineland. He received the EAME Service medal with 3 bronze service stars; the Good Conduct Medal; the Blue and Gold Presidential Citation; the Purple Heart Medal; the World War II Victory Medal and in December of 2003 he was presented the Normandy Invasion Medal from France and the United States.
Mr. Sheppard was a retired employee of Wometco Food Service and was also co-owner of Newberry Antiques and Auction Co. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he was a former member of the Congregational Council and where he was very active as long as his health permitted. He was a pioneer auctioneer, starting in the early 1970’s. He was presented the Little Red School House Award by the Newberry County School District .
Mr. Sheppard is survived by his wife, Margaret Coates Sheppard of the home; a daughter, Shaye Sheppard Beall of Newberry; a son, Vernon L. Sheppard Jr. of Taylors; three grandchildren, Meghan Sheppard Beall, Heather Shaye Beall, and Hillary Ellen Sheppard; a sister, Rosalyn Amick of Prosperity: and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dewey and Carolyn Coates, Billy and Lillian Coates, Clyde and Debbie Coates, Jack and Norma Coates, Elizabeth Jones, Ruby Hughes, Carl Coates, James and Doris Coates. He was predeceased by two brothers, Bill and Robert and a sister Mildred.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. The family will be at the residence 2903 Nance St., Newberry.
Funeral services for Vernon Sheppard will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church by the Rev. Ron Smith. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews; William Sheppard, Lealon Amick, Eddie Amick, Dustin Coats, Rob Byrd, Neal Coats, Gregg Coats, Jeff Kestner, Jack Day, Billy Hughes, Bill Switzer, Charles L. Welling, Donnie Lominack, and Jeff Hunter.

Eoline S. Werts

Eoline S. Werts, 96, formerly of Silverstreet, died Monday, August 9, 2004 at White Oak Manor.
Miss Werts was born on February 16, 1908 in Newberry County, a daughter of the late Arthur P. and Mamie B. Schumpert. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and was a retired public school teacher. She was a member of New Chapel United Methodist Church and the U.M.W. and she was a former Sunday school teacher.
Miss Werts is survived by a sister, Lilly W. Palmer of Columbia; and two nephews, Arthur P. Werts, III and R. Daniel Werts.
Funeral services for Eoline Werts will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Hugh Bickley. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

W. Don Conger

W. Don Conger, 53, of 153 Indian Creek Point, died Saturday, August 7, 2004.
Mr. Conger was born on January 1, 1951 in Spartanburg, a son of Robert D. and Catherine Smith Conger. He was an employee of Newberry County and was a member of Consolidated 5 Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Conger is survived by his parents of Prosperity; his wife, Donna Black Conger of the home; two daughters, Connie Conger of Saluda and Shannon Thomas of Saluda; a son, Tait Perry of Saluda; and two brothers, Johnny Conger and Ronald Conger both of Prosperity.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

Mary Watt Trihey

Mary Watt Trihey, 104, died Thursday, August 5, 2004 at White Oak Manor in Newberry.
Mrs. Trihey was born on April 8, 1900 in Winchester, IL, a daughter of the late James Oliver and Johanna Teahan Watt. She was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.
Mrs. Trihey is survived by two daughters; Marianne Weitz of Alexandria, VA and Kieran Mitchell of Vienna, VA; two sons, Pat Trihey of Coraopolis, PA and Mike Trihey of Ballentine, SC; nine grandchildren; and three great granddaughters and one great grandson.
Funeral Mass for Mary Watt Trihey will be conducted at 10:00 A. M. Tuesday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church by Father Jay Scott Newman. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Jeff D. Haimbaugh

Jeffery Dale Haimbaugh of 84 Mallard Cove, Prosperity, SC, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Haimbaugh was born on July 22, 1963, in Niles, Michigan, a son of Robert "Bob" D. and Betty Hass Haimbaugh. He moved to Pauline, SC in 1978 and to Prosperity, SC in 2001. He graduated from Dorman High School in Spartanburg, SC in 1981. He also attended USC Columbia and he was active in the B.S.U. as a summer missionary in Rochester, NY and in winter resort ministries. He was a member of South Spartanburg Baptist Church in Pauline and attended Dreher Island Baptist Church in Prosperity, SC.
Mr. Haimbaugh is survived by his parents of the home; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Sharm Haimbaugh of Niles, MI; sister and brother-in-law, April and Mark Cooke of Rock Hill, SC; nieces, Alexandria, Erica, and Audrey Beth Haimbaugh, all of Niles, MI; nephews, Seth and Noah Cooke, both of Rock Hill, SC; his maternal grandmother, Bessie Hass of Berrien Springs, MI; aunts and uncles, Jon and Robin Hass of Alexandria, VA; Vivian and Leroy Betts of Larwill, IN; Cliff and Sandi Haimbaugh of Bonita Springs, FL; Howard and Clarice of Exeter, MO; Betty and Jim Robbins of Chelsea, MI; Marilyn and Russ White of Niles, MI; Jack And Joyce Haimbaugh of Niles, MI; Helen and Rich Critchlow of Niles, MI; and several cousins.He was predeceased by grandparents, Russell and Letha Haimbaugh, and Edward Hass, an uncle, Glen Hass, and a cousin, Rick Simpson.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. The family will be at the residence 84 Mallard Court, Prosperity.

David N. Livingston

David Newton Livingston, 56, of 1142 Livingston Road, Pomaria, died Sunday, August 1, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Livingston was born in Pomaria on November 10, 1947, a son of the late Horace A. Livingston, Jr. and Essie Long Livingston. He was a member of Morris Chapel Southern Methodist Church, an U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and he was a carpenter.
Mr. Livingston is survived by his wife, Dianne Brown Livingston, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Jamey Mills, of Pomaria; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Traci Livingston, of Pomaria; four grandchildren, Ashley Livingston, Wesley Livingston, Hailey Mills, and Jessica Mills; four sisters, Llewella Fulmer of Pomaria, Lynn Ruff of Newberry, Frances Fulmer of Marion, and Magdalene Rikard of Batesburg; and two brothers, Virgil Livingston and Felix Livingston, both of Pomaria. He was predeceased by a sister, Florence Haltiwanger; and two brothers, Asbury Livingston, Jr.and Lee Livingston.
Funeral services for David Newton Livingston will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Tony Curcia. Internment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
