Cremation Association of North America
Founded in 1913, the Cremation Association of North America is an International organization of over 1200 members, composed of cemeterians, cremationists, funeral directors, industry suppliers and consultants.
South Carolina Funeral Directors Association

SCFDA is dedicated to providing education and information to its members and the general public, encouraging high standards of excellence and ethical practices, and fostering relationships between funeral homes and the families and communities they serve.

Last Acts is a campaign to improve end-of-life care by a coalition of professional and consumer organizations. We believe in palliative care, focused on managing pain and making life better for individuals and families facing death. Last Acts envisions a world in which dying people and their loved ones receive excellent care and are honored and supported by their community. This site is for professionals and volunteers working to improve care of the dying.

Lofty Oaks Association
Whitaker Funeral Home is affiliated with the Lofty Oaks Association, a New Hampshire organization dedicated to reforestation and conservation efforts in South Carolina. We arrange to have a tree planted for each service that we perform to provide a living memorial in honor of the deceased and to renew the forest life of South Carolina.
Funeral Service Foundation Consumer Assistance
The Funeral Service Consumer Assistance Program (FSCAP) is a nonprofit consumer service created to help consumers in matters involving funeral service. We believe that you, the consumer, are your own best advocate when you are well- informed and we recognize your right to clear, compassionate, and accurate funeral service information. We provide practical assistance to help you plan a meaningful funeral, learn about the process of grief, find support groups and resources or address a concern or complaint about the quality of funeral service you have received.

The Funeral Service Foundation, through charitable gifts and grants, provides resources for:

Association for Death Education and Counseling
ADEC is one of the oldest interdisciplinary organizations in the field of dying, death and bereavement. The almost 2000 members are made up of a wide array of mental and medical health personnel, educators, clergy, funeral directors, and volunteers. ADEC offers numerous educational opportunities through its annual conference, courses and workshops, its new certification program, and via its acclaimed newsletter, The Forum.
Fédération Internationale des Associations de Thanatoloques (FIAT) - International Federation of Thanatologists Associations (IFTA)
The objectives and purposes of the Federation are as follows:
  1. To research and jointly study legal, moral, social and scientific issues relating to thanatological activities, especially with regard to services rendered in memorialization and disposition of deceased individuals;
  2. To promote international understanding and goodwill among the world's funeral service professionals and to achieve uniformed standards, rules, regulations and treaties for the cost efficient international repatriation of deceased individuals;
  3. To encourage and develop education in the field of embalming (thanatopraxy) throughout the world and achieve uniform standards and regulations in respect of embalming (thanatopraxy);
  4. To increase the level of the professional knowledge of funeral service practitioners by assembling and disseminating to those in the profession publications, articles, and other works related to thanatological issues; and
  5. To provide due respect and deference to the autonomy of national organisations and to avoid any interference in all matters pertaining to laws, regulations, customs and manners of individual nations.
