Adella "Della" Bedenbaugh Summer, 86, of Newberry, widow of George W. Summer, died Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Springfield Place. Born on November 8, 1931 in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late W. Grady and Sara Alice Kinard Bedenbaugh. Mrs. Summer was a lifelong member of Colony Lutheran Church and WELCA. She was a former member of the choir, president of the Adult Sunday School Class for years, a lay reader, and served on church council. She was also a member of Friendship Group as well as a member of the Newberry AARP Chapter 5050. Della was a 1949 graduate of Prosperity High School, volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 15 years, and retired from the Newberry County Treasurer's Office in December 1993. She is survived by her sons, George Summer, Jr. (Karen) of Newberry and Gregg Summer (Beverly) of Prosperity; grandchildren, George Summer, III (Erika), Virginia Summer, Trista Baird (Judd), Alex Summer (Brandi) and Adam Summer; great-grandchildren, Judson Baird, Jonas Baird, Jensen Baird, and Emerson Summer; sister, Juanita Fulmer (Monroe) of Prosperity; brother, J. Wendell Bedenbaugh (Gloria) of Saluda; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Bedenbaugh of Prosperity. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George W. Summer; and brothers, Dr. J. Benjamin Bedenbaugh and David R. Bedenbaugh. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Colony Lutheran Church by Rev. Randy Derrick. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grady Fulmer, Charles Fulmer, Ernie Fulmer, Billy Summer, Clay Summer, Gary Manning, Pat Longshore, and Michael Wessinger.
