Obituary

Alan J. Caldwell 97 of Springfield Place widower of Annie Metts Caldwell died Friday June 24 2005 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.Mr. Caldwell was born on February 13 1908 in Newberry County a son of the late Ben H. and Mattie Brown Caldwell. He was an Army veteran of WW II. He was a former employee of Maxwell Brothers Furniture Co. and retired from Fulmer Building Supply Co. He was a member and former treasurer of Beth Eden Lutheran Church and he was a member of the American Legion Post 24. Mr. Caldwell is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Martha Caldwell and Bennie T. Cockfield of Springfield VA; a sister Jennie Caldwell Walker of Whitmire; three grandchildren Ben A. Cockfield of Gastonia NC Julie Seay of Baltimore MD and Le-Ann Chestnut of Newville PA; 6 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers Sims W. Caldwell Wylie H. Caldwell and Richard B. Caldwell.Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Rodney Gunter. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery.Visitation was from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.
