Obituary

Alice Haines Nobles 94 widow of J. Ray Nobles and formerly of Newberry died Tuesday January 29 2013 at Scotia Village Nursing Facility. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Friday February 1 2013 at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tresco Shannon. Interment was in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 on Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry. She was born on May 30 1918 in Cabarrus County NC the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Mary Belle Eudy Haines. After graduating from the Womens College of North Carolina Mrs. Nobles taught in the local schools. After marriage she moved to Newberry where she taught Physics Chemistry and Biology at both the high school and junior high school. Mrs. Nobles was a member of Central United Methodist Church and Circle 4 of the United Methodist Women. She was active in the Calvin Crozier Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Association of University Women. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Dr. John and Penny Nobles of Bennettsville SC; grandchildren Caitlin (John) Horne and Erin Nobles all of Charlotte and Phillip Nobles of Bennettsville. Pallbearers were Jamie Henderson Tommy Henderson Hayne Folk David Folk Wayne Folk John Folk Chase Folk Ren Henderson and Marvin Bost.
