Almena Elizabeth Mixon

January 20, 1933 – January 30, 2025
Almena Elizabeth Mixon Carroll, 92, of Prosperity, South Carolina, died Thursday, evening at Springfield Place in Newberry. She was born in Walterboro, SC, the daughter of the late Walter Easley Mixon and Janie Elizabeth Pye Mixon. She was the devoted wife to the late Melvin Herbert Carroll, Sr.
Almena was a member of Dreher Island Baptist Church, known today as Park Road Baptist Church, where her late husband preached and ministered. She worked for the Women's Correctional Center in Columbia, SC, for 18 years before she retired. She possessed a love for flowers; gladiolas and lilies were amongst her favorites.
Almena would often enjoy shopping and crocheting in her past time. She adored the moments spent camping in the mountains with her husband and family. She always loved to snack on her favorite chocolates and enjoyed them with her favorite soda, Pepsi and Mountain Dew. Almena loved her family dearly and loved her animal companions, Kahn, Charlie, Suzie, Teigha.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith Ann West and Carmen Lynn Stout (Steve); two sons, Melvin H. Carroll, Jr. (Deb) and Troy D. White (Kathy); grandchildren, Tracy Iannuzzi, Melvin Carroll, III, Keiva Seamon, Brian Cowart, Craig Stout, Jenny Carroll and Tara Carroll; three great granddaughters, Tori Iannuzzi, Jillian White and Korie Nicole Seamon. She is also survived by her nieces, Lena and Sandy.
The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00AM at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Chapin.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapin, officiated by the Rev. Waco Cotney. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Columbia at 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Road Baptist Church, 360 State Park Road, Prosperity, SC 29127; and or a local humane society of your choice.
