Angelo Edmond Velilla-Aponte, 83, of Chapin, died August 30, 2022 in Myrtle Beach, SC, surrounded by his loving family.
Angelo was born on June 1, 1939, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. On October 15, 1960, he married Emily Diaz. He was in the United States Air Force from 1958 until 1981, retiring as Master Sergeant. During his 22 years in the Air Force, he served 2 tours in Vietnam and was a Korean Veteran. Angelo moved to Chapin, SC in 1981 and worked in civil services at Fort Jackson as Head of Safety, retiring in 2003.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emily Diaz Velilla; a twin sister, Agnes Rodriguez; sibling, Rachel Orozco; children, Derek Velilla, Mayra Velilla-Ryte (Tom), Emily Velilla, Edmond Velilla (Linda), and Michelle Holliman (David); grandchildren, Rick Velilla (Katie), Josh Velilla (Alison), Micah Velilla (Nyssa), Nicholas Velilla, DJ Velilla, Chelsea Kendall (Dex), Ethan Danielson (Nicole), Aaron Danielson (Alyssa), Ashley Danielson, Angel Velilla, Davis Velilla, Hannah Velilla, Matthew Graham, Maggie Graham, Emma Holliman, and Sydney Holliman; great-grandchildren, Eli, Marisol, GiGi, Naomi, Sammy, Brielle, Forrest, Elias, Samuel, Eillie, and Margo; daughter-in-law, Marie Velilla; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mom, Monserrate Sanchez-Cruz; dad, Angel Velilla; son, Richard Velilla; and sibling, Zulma Calixto.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held by the Rev. Father Dennis B. Willey on Saturday, September 3, 2022, 1:30 PM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Chapin. Viewing and the receiving of friends will take place from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM, prior to the Mass, at Whitaker Funeral Home, 939 Chapin Road, Chapin, SC.
