Obituary

Anna Lea McLemore Gordon, 93, of Newberry, died Friday, March 17, 2017 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born on October 9, 1923 in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Minnie Lee Tallon McLemore. She grew up in Columbia and was a graduate of Olympia High School. She and her husband lived in Newberry where they were very much a part of the community, involved in many ways. Anna Lea Gordon was a lady who especially enjoyed doing for others. Mrs. Gordon was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the Young Couples Sunday School Class, WELCA, the 50 + Group and was a former volunteer at the Newberry Opera House. She was active in various bridge clubs including the Original Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club. At the young age of 62, she took up golf and continued to enjoy her chocolate throughout her lifetime. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Stutts (Barry) and Ginger Stoudenmire (Mike), all of Columbia; grandchildren, Angela Lee Lagroon (Richard), Brandon Stutts (Kim), Kyle Stoudenmire (Leigh), and Jake Stoudenmire; great-grandchildren, Leanne Lagroon, Ryan Lagroon, Blair Stutts, Bryson Stutts, Callie Stoudenmire, and Finn Stoudenmire; and sister, Marjorie Byars of Columbia. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, W.S. "Dub" Gordon, Jr; and sisters, Velda Jaco and Charlena Arledge. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer conducted by Rev. Matthew Titus. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 9:30 until 10:30 AM. Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia. Pallbearers will be John Paul Whitaker, Jimmy Ray Pruitt, Heber Long, Wick Byars, Jerry Byars, Jake Jaco, and Travis Gordon. The family expresses their sincere thank you to the staff at Springfield Place, to Dr. Mark Davis, and to the nurses at Newberry County Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care.
