B. Atlas Wright 83 of Newberry died Wednesday May 23 2012 at the Heritage at Lowman. Visitation was Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Whitaker Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Whitesides. Born in Anson County NC on November 18 1928 he was a son of the late Rubin A. and Angela Carpenter Wright. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Wright was a United States Navy veteran and retired from Palmetto Spinning Corp after 23 years of service. He was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church where he was lovingly known by the children as well as the adults as Uncle B was a member of the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class and also a member of the Newberry Lions Club. He enjoyed his years of volunteering with the Salvation Army. Surviving is his wife of 62 years Helen Thomas Wright and a number of nieces and nephews. He was especially close to Austin and Ashton Bartley and Seth Chick. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Jeff Mills Jeff Bartley Darron Thomas Seth Chick Keith Bartley and Austin Bartley. Honorary pallbearers were the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class.
