Obituary

Barbara Fisher Marros, 76, of Prosperity, died Friday, March 4, 2016 at her residence. Born on April 21, 1939 in Cape May Court House, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Marshall and Marie Fisher. Participating in Lions Club projects was her life for the past 20 years. She was the first female district governor in Lions International and participated in the Rose Bowl Parade. She joined her Husband and Partner in Service Lion John Marros on March 5, 2016. Past District Governor (PDG) Barbara (Stevens) Marros joined the Oxon Hill Lioness Club in April of 1982 and was a Charter member of the Oxon Hill-Friendly Lions Club. PDG Barbara and husband Lion John transferred to the Gateway Lions in December 1, 2009 before moving out of the area, but maintained their memberships up to their deaths PDG Barbara served Lions District 22-C, Multiple District 22 and the Lions Clubs International (LCI) Association with distinction. PDG Barbara served District 22-C as the 22-C Night Social Ticket Chair five times, was Executive Assistant in 1997-1998, Zone Chair in 1998-1999 and Administrative Assistant in 1999-2000, among other committees. She was selected for the District 22-C Honor Roll in 1993 and received the District Governor's Appreciation Award in 1997 and 2000. PDG Barbara was a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow and Life Member of Lions Clubs International. PDG Barbara became the first female District Governor of LCI from 2001-2002. PDG Barbara was so well thought of that she was appointed as the first female Board Appointee of LCI, serving on the LCIF Executive Committee and Public Relations Committee under then International President Clement F. Kusiak, 2004-2005. For her dedication to the Association, she received many awards including the Leadership Award, two Presidential Awards, Membership Key and the Ambassador of Good Will, the highest honor the Association gives to its members. She was a fabulous cook and along with her husband, enjoyed entertaining. She is survived by children, Dawn Harris (Tom) of Prosperity and Craig Alan Walker (Renee) of Pace, FL; grandchildren, Nicole Marie Jones and Joshua Craig Walker; great-grandchildren, Immanuel Jones and Elijah Jones; and sister, Joan Freidman of Walnut Creek, Ca. She was predeceased by her husband, John Marros and a sister, Marsha Boyle. Funeral services will be held in Stone Harbor, NJ at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Lions International District 22-C, 15907 St. Thomas Church Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.
