Barry Hamby, 79, of Little Mountain, SC, died April 15, 2025. Born on June 15, 1945, in Newberry, SC, son of the late Robert Claude and Dorothy Ann (Lewis) Hamby.

Barry had a deep passion for the outdoors, with a particular love for hunting and fishing, especially fly fishing. He found joy in reading and immersing himself in WWII documentaries, becoming quite knowledgeable about the topic. Above all, Barry cherished the moments spent with his family, and he held a special place in his heart for creating lasting memories with his beloved son and grandson.

Barry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Penny Hamby; son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Selena Hamby; and grandson, Ayden Hamby; all of Little Mountain, SC.

A private remembrance service will be held for the family.

In honor of his memory, Barry asked that everyone tell their boss that he was their best friend and take the day off to go fishing or do something they loved, rather than attending his funeral. It was his way of encouraging others to celebrate life in a way that brought them joy, just as he had always done.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
