Bertie Ruth Amick Hawkins 96 widow of H. Bates Hawkins of 1655 Fire Tower Rd. Prosperity died Saturday September 3 2005 at the White Oak Manor.Mrs. Hawkins was born December 17 1908 in Lexington County a daughter of the late Bennett L. and Elizabeth Fulmer Amick. She was the oldest member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church and Lula Hunter Circle. She was retired from Old School Manufacturing Co. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by a son Paul L. (Anne) Hawkins of Prosperity; a brother Boinest Amick of Prosperity; two grandchildren Pam H. (Harvey) Brown of Lexington and Kent (Bess) Hawkins of Prosperity; and four great-granddaughters Caitlin Brown and Erica Mathis of Lexington Mindy Hawkins and Jessica Hawkins of Columbia.She loved her family and her church. Her hobby was quilting for family and friends.Funeral services was held Tuesday September 6 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Lukes Lutheran Church by Rev. Art Hallman. Interment did follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family was at the home of Paul and Anne Hawkins 1619 Fire Tower Road Prosperity and did receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to St. Lukes Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall fund 4056 St. Lukes Church Road Prosperity S.C. 29127Pallbearers were Robert Turner Leland Amick Eddie Amick James Hawkins Jerry Nichols and William Smith.Messages to the family may be sent via email to notes@whitakerfuneralhome.comWhitaker Funeral Home Newberry is assisting the family.
