Obituary

Bessie Mae Crumpton Tarver, 82, of Newberry, died Saturday, July, 1, 2017 at White Oak Manor in Newberry. Born in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late H. Luther "Luke" and Lorean Wicker Crumpton. She worked for Greenwood Mills for 35 years and retired from Clinton Mills after 10 years of service. Mrs. Tarver was a very candid and honest person and a woman of strong faith. She was member of Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church, a former Sunday School teacher, was a past president of the Women's Ministries, and a former youth leader at First Assembly of God Church. Over the years Bessie opened her table, home, and heart to family and those she made feel as family. She enjoyed cooking and eating, sewing, quilting, and crocheting. Mrs. Tarver is survived by her sons and their wives, Toby & Helen Tarver of Joanna and Al and Amber Tarver of Newberry; very special niece and nephew and their spouses, Cathy & Charles Clinton of Newberry and Rudie & Nancy Tarver of Prosperity; sister, Mary Brewer of Newberry; sister-in-law, Raynell Crumpton of West Columbia; grandchildren and spouses, Allen & Amanda Tarver, Andy & Crystal Tarver, Travis & Beth Tarver, Jesse & Tiffany Tarver, Matthew & Jessica Tarver, and Joshua Tarver; great grandchildren, Robby, Sami, Jensen, Sawyer, Austin, Aaron and Hailee; great nieces and nephews, Casey, Chuck, Lee, and Holly; great great nephew, Hunter, that she helped raise. Mrs. Tarver was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 55 years, James L. Tarver; sisters, Frances Humphries, Doris Smith, Doshia Gentry, and Mavis Tarver; and brothers, Thomas Crumpton and Ernest Crumpton. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Charles Clinton and the Rev. Mark Crumpton. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will be at her residence 962 Lindsay Circle and will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM Monday, July 3, 2017 at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be Fred E. Harmon, Earl Dominick, Donnie Wilson and Ronnie Cromer. Bessie's family thanks the Newberry Hospital and White Oak Manor staff for their dedicated and loving care. Memorials are suggested to Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church, PO Box 444, Newberry, SC 29108. Whitaker Funeral Home of Newberry is assisting the family.
