Betty A. McEntire 82 died Monday September 1 2014 at her residence in Irmo SC. Funeral services were conducted 11:00AM Thursday September 4 2014 at the Lake Murray Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Ben Sloan. Interment did follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery Pomaria SC. Visitation was from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home 939 Chapin Rd. Chapin. Born on January 18 1932 in Pomaria she was a daughter of the late Ivy Eugene Allen and Ada Richardson Allen. She moved to Columbia after high school where she met and married the love of her life the late Hanes A. McEntire. Betty worked at SC National Bank and the Hearing and Speech Center in Columbia. She was a founding member of Virginia Wingard Methodist Church in St. Andrews in 1954 and after moving from the St. Andrews area became a devoted member of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church where she had many loving and caring friends. She was active in the Joy circle. Betty was an avid Gamecock fan loved flowers and spending time in the mountains with family. She was a friend and mother figure to many outside of her immediate family and was referred to as Grammy by all who loved her. Betty will be remembered as a lady who always made others feel special and welcome. She loved God her family her church and her friends with all her heart. She is survived by her children Renee McEntire McGinnis of Chapin and Bartley Hanes McEntire and his wife Lisa S. McEntire of Lexington. She is the proud and loving grandmother to four grandchildren Melissa Renee Rector Matthew Roy McGinnis (Monica) Marci Taylen McEntire and Morgan Hanes McEntire; and three great grandchildren Hannah Renee Rector Matthew Roy McGinnis Jr. and Ella Renee McGinnis. She is also survived by her sister Judy Meetze (Melvin); brother-in-law John Thomas McEntire; and several loving nieces nephews and extended family. The family sincerely appreciates the compassionate care of all those who watched over her during her illness especially Blue Ridge Hospice Care Generations Dorothy Counts Lindsey Blevins and Dr. Carroll Pinner of Pinner Clinic.
