Obituary

Betty Bowers Haltiwanger 80 of Newberry wife of G. Edward Ed Haltiwanger died Tuesday July 24 2012 at Palmetto Health Richland. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Dr. David Seymour. Interment did follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry. Born in Little Mountain on November 3 1931 she was a daughter of Brabham Ewell and Julia Shealy Bowers and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Betty was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she participated in Fifty Plus was a member of the WELCA and served in many other capacities. She had chaired the Bereavement Meals Committee served on the Fellowship Committee and had been very involved in making church banners and quilts. For a number of years Betty worked in the family business Haltiwanger Tire Company and she enjoyed being a member of the Newberry Car Buffs. In addition to her husband of sixty three years she is survived by her daughter Cathy H. Turner of Newberry; sons and their spouses Jerry M. and Harriett Haltiwanger and Curtis E. and Debbie Haltiwanger all of Newberry; grandchildren Lori T. Justice of Knoxville TN C. Anne Haltiwanger of Newberry Jeremy T. (Becca) Haltiwanger of Charlotte NC Christopher M. (Marianne) Haltiwanger of Newberry Ashley H. (Brian) Fitzgerald of Columbia and Jason C. (Amanda) Haltiwanger of Newberry; great-grandchildren Skylar T. Haltiwanger Caleb P. Haltiwanger M. Reese Haltiwanger Evelyn G. Haltiwanger Colin A. Fitzgerald and Lochlan E. Fitzgerald; a sister-in-law Voris Bowers of Prosperity; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Henry and Daphine Haltiwanger of Newberry Jimmy and Beth Haltiwanger of Silverstreet Mickey and Mary Haltiwanger of Newberry Mackey H. and Don Satterfield of Hodges and Linda H. Clark of Prosperity; and her beloved dog Digger. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her son-in-law Terry Turner grandson-in-law Jack Jay Justice brothers Carl Hubert and Robert Bowers; sisters Mary Lizzy Boland Mildred Hentz and Kathryn Wicker; sister-in-law Elizabeth H Hamm and Doris H. Hamby; and brother-in-law Kenny Haltiwanger. Memorials are suggested to The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer 1515 Boundary Street Newberry SC 29108 or to the Newberry Car Buffs % Melinda Long 1813 Peak Rd. Pomaria SC 29126. Pallbearers were Doug Cook Eugene Maybin Robert Earl Willingham William Doyle Jones Morris Pinckney Johnson and Albert Willard Brown. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Newberry Car Buffs.
