Obituary

Betty Taylor Copley 87 formerly of Aiken and widow of Burt C. Copley Sr. died Friday August 15 2014 at J.F. Hawkins in Newberry SC. Mrs. Copley was born on February 6 1927 in Recife Brazil. She was a daughter of missionary parents the late Rev. George Taylor and Julia Pratt Taylor. She was a graduate of Presbyterian College and enjoyed a career as a special education teacher in the Aiken County Schools. She loved to travel and traveled extensively during her life. Mrs. Copley was a dedicated mother. She was a member of first Presbyterian Church in Aiken and also a member of the Law Sunday School Class. She is survived by her children; Hunt (Jerry) Coffey of Newberry Ginny (Paul) Joyce of Matthews NC and Burt (Melissa) Copley of Aiken; grandchildren James (Julie) Coffey Matthew Coffey Jeff Joyce Michael (Mallory) Joyce Elizabeth Joyce Madison Copley and Braxton Copley; great granddaughter Anna Coffey; her twin sister Julia Cushman Chattanoga TN and special family member Bo Coffey of Newberry. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a Daughter Julia Julie Pratt Copley brother Dr. G. Aiken Taylor and sister Frances Roberts There was a service at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home 715 E. Pine Long Rd. Aiken SC on Friday August 22 2014 at 11:00 AM. The family did receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. The family suggests memorials be made to Formula For Life Necklace Project First Presbyterian Church 224 Barnwell Ave. NW Aiken SC 29801.
