Bobby Metts, 82, of Newberry died Wednesday September 29, 2021.
Born on October 3, 1938 in Chapin, SC he was a son of the late Haskell and Nancy Richardson Metts.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and very active in the Lutheran Men in Mission and the Men's Bible Class. Bobby had a strong Christian faith, reading scriptures several times a day, and praying daily. His faith sustained him and he was a fighter despite his health issues.
Bobby worked as a freight agent for CN&L Railroad for many years. He was a die-hard Clemson fan and a proud member of IPTAY for 52 years. He enjoyed going to the mountains and his favorite past-time was playing Scrabble. Bobby loved his family, and was especially close with his nephews and great-nieces.
Bobby is survived by his brother, Carroll "Sidney" Metts and wife, Debra, of Newberry; nephews, David Metts and wife, Tiffany, and Darren Metts and wife, Heidi, all of Newberry; great-nieces, Mallorie Ruth and Emma Jean; and special cousin, Sandra Kay Porter of Newberry.
Funeral services for Bobby will be conducted at 4PM Monday by the Rev. Matthew Titus at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM Sunday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
Pallbearers will be David Metts, Darren Metts, Travis Harmon, Tiffany Metts, Lee Foster, and Ronnie Cromer.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Class, members of the Lutheran Men in Mission, Zane Lindler, Billy Norris, Craig Cromer, and Harvey Kinard.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1515 Boundary St, Newberry SC 29108.
