Obituary

Brenda Koon Long of Pomaria died Saturday March 7 2015 at Lexington Medical Center. Her husband George sons Tarry and Tommy Long daughter Trudy Key along with close relatives and friends at her bedside. She led a courageous and faithful life as she battled kidney disease for more than 25 years. She was fortunate to have received 2 successful kidney transplants in her lifetime. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Pomaria Lutheran Church by the Rev. Derald Edwards. Interment will be in the Pomaria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Pomaria Cemetery Fund PO Box 246 Pomaria SC 29126 or to the Pomaria Rescue Squad c/o Kathie Lietzsey 1245 Lieztsey Rd Pomaria SC 29126 Mrs. Long was born on Sept. 17 1942 in Pomaria the daughter of the late T.C. Did and Ruth Richardson Koon. She was a homemaker and formerly served as Postmaster Relief in Pomaria Post Office. She was a member of the Pomaria Lutheran Church WELCA and the Faithful Followers Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Woodmen of the World and was a former Sunday School teacher. Brenda loved camping in the mountains watching humming birds reading and especially talking to her pet rabbit. She was always doing things for others. She is survived by her husband of 52 years George R. Long; her children Trudy Key Tarry Long (Melinda Wise) and Tommy Long (Lisa Crowder) all of Pomaria; and grandchildren Hunter Key Eric Long Amber Riddle (Brandon) brother R. Paul Richardson of Pomaria and a number of foreign exchange students. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law Norma Richardson. Active pallbearers will be John Lowder David Lowder J.C. Doolittle Brian Key Earl Long Buckey Meetze Jim Meetze and Kevin Lindler. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Koon Roscoe Lominick Henry Wicker Dwight Wilson and the members of Faithful Followers Sunday School Class and Pomaria Lutheran Church WELCA.
