Brenda Russell 63 passed away at her home in Newberry SC surrounded by her family on Sunday May 31st. She put up a valiant fight against Melanoma Cancer finally succumbing to its stronger force. She was born August 23 1951 in Chattanooga and lived there all her life until recently moving to Newberry. Her Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday June the 5th at First Christian Church on McCallie Avenue in Chattanoooga TN with Phil & Aline Summerlin and her cousin Bruce Sheets officiating. A graveside service for family will be at 2:30 at Forrest Hills Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 11:00am with open visitation from 11:30pm in the Crane Lounge at the church. Don will also receive friends at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry on Tuesday June 2 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. She was a 1969 graduate of Central High School. Her main occupation was her family and friends. She was a loving and giving wife mother grandmother family member and friend. She had worked in the Hamilton County schools at many locations as a volunteer a substitute teacher and finally settled at Red Bank Elementary as a Teachers Assistant. She was loved by many for her care for and talents with children especially those with special needs. She was preceded in death by her father David Preston Scott and her father-in-law Dr. Don Russell. She is survived by her husband Don (Russ) Russell; by her daughter Marie (Glenn) Howard and by her son Rusty (Megan) Russell; by her grandchildren Alex Spears and Wilkie Howard; by her mother Billie (Ruth) Scott and her mother-in-law Louise Russell; and by her 3 brothers Billy (Sherry) Scott Wayne Scott and David (Sybil) Scott; by her special aunt Louise Sheets; and the remainder of her cherished family.
