Carol Jean Garner, 64, died Monday, May 9, 2016 at her mother's home in Prosperity. Born in Newberry County on November 9, 1951, she was the daughter of Jewel Bouknight Garner and the late Carroll Bruce Garner. Carol Jean attended Mid Carolina High School and following graduation began working with Bergen's stores in downtown Newberry. Her employment with Bergen's spanned thirty eight years. . She was a faithful member of Wightman United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader of books of every type, enjoyed creating by needle point, cross stitch, and crochet, and was deeply attached to her cat "Sassy". Her son and granddaughter topped everything for they were the center of her life. In addition to her father, Carol Jean was predeceased by husbands, Thomas Edward Fulmer and Terry "TC" Chapman, the father of her son; and brothers, K. Bruce "Buddy" Garner and William Mack Garner. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her mother, Jewel Garner of Prosperity; son, Travis Chapman of Newberry, granddaughter and her husband Jessica Chapman Attaway and Trey of Newberry; step-grandson, Dylan Fulmer of Newberry; aunt, Louise Cribb, nephews, John E. Garner, Sgt Jesse B. Garner, Jason Garner, and Mack and Kristie Garner and their children, McKenzie and Gavin; cousins, Mike Mills, Dr. Leslie Stuck, Ginny Boland, Neva Caldwell, Traci Bouknight and Libby Allison. Funeral services will be held at Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity at 11:30 am on Saturday, May 14, 2016 conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Counts and Rev. Herbert Stephens.
