A kind and gentle soul was born October 5, 1930 in New York City to Jessie and Arthur Fraas, and died June 6, 2021 in Minnesota.
She was a good student who grew up enjoying camping and ocean beaches with her large extended family. After high school, she attended Berkeley School, joined Omicron Sigma Beta sorority, graduated from an executive secretary program and soon after met a dashing young veteran from California through her church Luther League. After a 2 yr courtship of dances & Broadway, a smitten Carol married Bill in 1952. Their union was strong and encompassed many moves to advance his career: New York to Chicago, Maryland, Atlanta, Maryland again, and finally the Twin Cities in 1972, raising 4 children along the way.
Carol worked as a secretary for many years, but after proudly earning a BA in Communications at age 58, became a warm, calming customer service rep at First Bank. She & Bill savored family road trips & camping, theater, dancing, bridge club and volunteering in all manner of roles at church; she particularly enjoyed sewing, painting and keeping a tidy and welcoming home.
After retirement, her focus changed to cheer every activity of their 9 wonderful grandchildren, travel in Europe and Asia, and devotedly tend to her parents for 9 yrs after they, too, moved to MN. Carol was a tireless caregiver & advocate for Bill's 12 yr battle with Alzheimer's until he passed in 2016; their love remains an example of a strong Christian marriage. Then, with her extended family grown & flourishing, Carol readily embraced the busy social life of her senior community.
As her health changed, she moved a final time in 2020. Even as her light began to dim, she looked for the best aspects of life at Sunrise of Golden Valley - making friends of staff and residents and reaching out to help those on her floor. We are very appreciative of the Sunrise Reminiscence staff and their attentive care to Carol.
She is survived by children Beverly (Charles) Aurand, Craig (Lisa) Robbins, Linda (Bob) Lach, Carolyn (Stephen) Paetzel, grandchildren Hannah Aurand (Cliff Billings), Lydia (Justin) Willand, Chris Robbins, Sam (Laura) Robbins, Kelly Robbins (Jon Collins), Allie Lach (Steve Freixa), Jim Lach, Christina (Kadie) Gutierrez, Justin (Monica) Paetzel; great-grandchildren Lincoln Paetzel, Ranger Paetzel; sister Joan Bunt, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Masks required at visitation (1-2PM) and Funeral Service (2PM) on Wed, June 9 at Transfiguration Lutheran Church, 11000 France Av S, Bloomington.
Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Association.
