Carol Thomas, 67, of Whitmire died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at his residence. Born on March 13, 1950 in Newberry, he was a son of the late Charles Doward and Anne Mae Robertson Thomas. Carol was a member of Whitmire Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was the retired Chief of the Whitmire Fire Department and a past member of the Newberry County Board of Rural Fire Control. He had served as Mayor Pro Tem of Whitmire and was a former member of the Whitmire Town Council. A successful businessman, he worked as the Market Manager of Winn Dixie for thirty five years, has been the owner of Thomas Grocery and Grill for eleven years, was store manager of Piggly Wiggly of Whitmire for a number of years and in 2006 took ownership of the store. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betty K. Thomas; sons, Michael Paul Thomas (Chelsea) of Whitmire and Christopher David Thomas of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild; siblings, Carolyn Bowen of Summerville, Donald Thomas and Robert Thomas both of Clinton; and nephew Kevin Thomas. The family greatly appreciates the continued friendship of his special friends, Dr. Robert Yannetti, Dr. Tondre Buck and Dr. Brandy Murray. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Whitmire with the Rev. Eddie Duncan and the Rev. Todd Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Whitmire Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Whitmire Fire Department, 136 Gilliam St. on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm and will be located at 271 Glenn St, in Whitmire at other times. Pallbearers will be Josh Wilbanks, Michael Moss, Nathan Alexander, Charles Drew, Steve Eison and Robby Gossett. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Whitmire Fire Department.
