Obituary

Carolyn "Cammy" Wheless, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and brand new great-grandmother passed away on February 2, 2022, at the age of 92. She was born in Henrietta, NC on April 22, 1929 to Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Claude Lovelace. At an early age she contracted polio, leaving her with limited use of her left arm and hand. For therapy she began piano and flute lessons. This started a lifelong love affair with music that was passed down to her children and grandchildren. Cammy graduated from Salem College cum laude, as a public school music major in 1951. She taught instrumental music for five years in Winston-Salem, NC and participated in the Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestra. While in Winston-Salem, she met her husband Jim on a blind date. With her mother's help and encouragement, the rest is history. After marriage, they resided in Roanoke, VA for over 45 years where they raised their two children. As an active member of Grandin Court Baptist Church for 47 years, she participated in their orchestra and music ministry. She also played in the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra for 29 years, played in a flute choir and taught private flute lessons In 2004 Cammy and Jim moved to Chapin, SC to be near her daughter. They became members of Chapin United Methodist Church. In 2009, after 53 years of marriage, Jim passed away. She then joined the church orchestra. She was a great supporter of the music ministry there until her death. Cammy was preceded in death by her husband Dr. James (Jim) E. Wheless and her twin sister, Mirilyn Lovelace and older sister Jane Timmons. She is survived by her children, Dr. James E. Wheless, Jr., Carol Wheless Weathers (Ron), grandchildren, James Allen Weathers (Staci), Ashley Weathers Skriba (Michael), James E.
