Carolyn Collins Cromer, 94, of Newberry, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Born on Jun 25, 1931 in Hillsborough, NC, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Blanche Frederick Collins. In high school, she played on the varsity basketball team, was a majorette, and was voted Homecoming Queen three consecutive years.
Carolyn married Harry E. Cromer in 1949 and together they built a wonderful life centered around family. At his death in 2021, they were days short of celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary.
She was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she taught Sunday School and also served on Church Council. Carolyn was a member of the Town and Country Garden Club and served as an advisor to the Newberry Newcomers Club.
While small in stature, she was mighty in spirit. She was the consummate mother and homemaker, working hard to ensure her family had a life filled with love and discipline through quiet strength. Carolyn was an excellent cook who particularly enjoyed Christmas and Easter holidays as her family gathered to share the meals she had lovingly prepared. Carolyn and Harry enjoyed entertaining and opening their historic home for many events. She was an avid Bridge player and shared a love of history and antiques with her husband.
She is survived by her children, Jan Cromer Lowrey (Andy) of Columbia, Harry E. “Bubba” Cromer, Jr. (Lynn) of Newberry, and John Malone Cromer (Lee Cooper) of Columbia; grandchildren, Frances Cromer Gray (Hugh), Harry Cromer, III (Whitney), Collins Reingart (Chad), Allison Gilbert (Chad), and Anna Beth Huffstetler; great-grandchildren, Catherine, Matthew, and Andrew Moyd; Julia Collins and Harrison Cromer; James and William Reingart; Neely and Landon Gilbert; and Drew and Lucy Huffstetler. She is also survived by her sister, Peggy Murphy of Raleigh, NC, and a special friend and caregiver, Gwendy Wheeler.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Kenneth Collins, Fred Collins, Bill Collins, Faye Hicks and her grandson-in-law, Lucas Huffstetler.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Matthew Titus at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 3:00 pm, in the Family Life Center at the church.
