Obituary

Carolyn Smith Nabers 81 formerly of Newberry widow of William M. Bill Nabers Jr. died Wednesday July 04 2012 in Columbia at the home of her daughter. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Central United Methodist Church by Rev. Tresco Shannon and Rev. Karen Radcliffe. The family did receive friends in Henry Hall following the service. Mrs. Nabers was born on February 4 1931 in Greenville SC daughter of the late Walter Alexander and Annie Mae Coleman Smith. She especially enjoyed gardening knitting and playing bridge. An active member of Central United Methodist Church Carolyn had served as a past president of the United Methodist Women and was a recipient of the UMW Special Recognition Award. Additionally she was a past president and vice president of Central UMW Circle 8 a member of the Fellowship Class and of the Wednesday Bible Study. Mrs. Nabers is survived by her daughter Carol Nabers of Columbia; brothers and sister-in-law Kenton and Ann Rice Smith of Titusville Florida and Royce Smith of Colorado; a number of nieces and nephews and her two beloved cats Cali and Penny. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her son Michael Nabers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wednesday Night Bridge Club.
