Carrie T. Rinehart 98 of Newberry widow of the late Dr. Virgil W. Rinehart died Thursday April 21 2011 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Mrs. Rinehart was born in Cope SC a daughter of the late Henry Jake and Ida Virginia Thompson. She was educated at Cope High School and Columbia College. She was twice widowed first to Dr. Leonides Cary Davis of Columbia and second to Dr. Virgil W. Rinehart of Newberry. During her first marriage she was an active member of the Columbia Medical Society Auxiliary and served as its President and held many offices in the South Carolina Medical Auxiliary. She was also an active member of the Washington Street Methodist church. In 1960 she married Dr. Virgil W. Rinehart and became an active member of the Newberry Medical Society Auxiliary and served as president twice. She was a member of the Central Methodist Church and served as a circle leader for twenty years. Mrs. Rinehart was also a member of the Newberry Fine Arts Club the Columbia Home Arts Club the Newberry Community Players the Newberry Historical Society the Newberry Opera House and the Afternoon Bridge Club. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Rinehart is survived by her step-daughter Martha Jo Rinehart Hulett of Newberry; nieces and their spouses Polly and Joe Turkaly of Newberry Jackie Jefferson of Woodruff Carrie McAlhany of Orangeburg Ruby Dannelly of Cope Gloria Amaker of Swansea and Claire Clary of Grand Rapids MI; nephews and their spouses Roger and Carolyn Thompson of Cameron Jimmy and Charlotte Thompson and Red and Billie Jean Thompson all of Orangeburg Samuel and Blanche Kimmerlin of Sumter Joseph and Sylvia Rinehart of Batesburg; sister-in-law Splawn Rollins Davis of Swansea; step-daughter-in-law Connie Clark Rinehart of Newberry; niece-in-law Betty Robinson of Gastonia NC; many great-nieces and great-nephews and best friend Willie Mae Yonn of Newberry. She was predeceased by; sisters Ailenn Gray and Ruby Kimmerlin; brothers Woodrow W. Thompson and Friendly Thompson; a step-son Virgil Rinehart; nephew J.T. Robinson; niece Thelma Horger. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Karen Radcliffe. Interment was at 3:30 PM Tuesday in the Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery in Calhoun County. Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry.
