Catherine Smith Conger 83 of 1783 SC Hwy 391 Prosperity died Tuesday September 30 2014 The family did receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM Sunday at Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry. Graveside services did follow at 2:30 PM Sunday at Newberry Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Priscilla Griffith. Following the service friends were invited back to the residence. Born on June 26 1931 in Montgomery Alabama she was the daughter of the late Willie and Make Smith. Mrs. Conger was a member of Church By the River. She loved her cats and enjoyed taking care of them. Catherine was an exceptional cook and loved having family gatherings. She was a caring and loving mother and grandmother with an over-appreciation for the holidays. Her home was often featured in the Newberry Observer for its festive and joyful decorations. She will be remembered as someone who loved life and loved people. She is survived by; sons Johnny Conger and Ronald Boogie Conger both of Prosperity; grandchildren Connie Conger Rebecca Conger and Rachel Conger; and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 64 years Robert D. Conger and a son Donald Donnie Conger. Pallbearers were Markie Macardo Alphonso Martin Jeffery Gantt Derry Hawkins Willie Byars and Bobby Corley.
