Cathryn Cohen Moates, 81, of Newberry, died on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born on July 10, 1938 in Union, SC she was a daughter of the late W. Paul Cohen, Sr. and the late Lola Wilkins Cohen. She was twice married, first to the late Vernon Hunter and second to the late Horace Moates. As long as health permitted, Mrs. Moates faithfully attended Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a CNA and took pride in being able to care for others. Her heart was full of love and she particularly loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed time with them and especially enjoyed opportunities to fish with them. Survivors include her children, Billy R. Hunter (Debra) of Newberry, Jennifer Gail Seawright of Asheville, V. Lewis Hunter of Prosperity and Randall Lee Hunter of Lexington; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was predeceased by a son William Dean Hunter and her brothers, Boyd and Wayne Cohen. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, February 27 at Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Charlie Clinton officiating.
