Obituary

Charles L. Hamby 73 of 2305 Mayes Avenue Newberry died Tuesday June 15 2004 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hamby was born on June 13 1931 in Simpsonville a son of the late W. A. and Mamie Hill Hamby. He was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church. He retired from the Kendall Company Oakland Plant having worked at the Mollohon Plant also and was retired from the United States Army. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Hamby is survived by his wife of 55 years Doris Haltiwanger Hamby of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law; Christie and Dale Eargle and Alice and Danny Turner all of Newberry; four sisters and a brother-in-law Willie Cooper of Marietta GA Polly Mills and Eunice Long of Newberry and Vernice and George Fuller of Greensboro NC; a brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Joy Hamby of Newberry; six grandchildren and spouses Carol and Roger Marlow Luther Eargle Mikel Eargle Lizzi Eargle Charley and Skipper Livingston and Allison and Micheal Stribble all of Newberry; three great-grandchildren LeAnn Marlow Marie Marlow and R. J. "Little Man" Marlow; and four step-grandchildren Lee Turner Carl Turner Paul Turner and Shawn Folk.. He was predeceased by two brothers Carl Hamby and Claude Hamby and a sister Roberta Hamby. Funeral services for Charles L. Hamby will be conducted at 10:30 AM Friday at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Todd Kirkland Rev. Charles Aurand and Rev. Jim Hagen. Interment with full military honors will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence 2305 Mayes Avenue Newberry. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church 300 Glenn St. Newberry SC 29108 Faith Lutheran Church 1505 Wilson Rd.
