Obituary

Charlie Bailey Shealy, 86, of Chapin, South Carolina, died Saturday, September 14, 2024.

He was born May 26, 1938, in Chapin, South Carolina, to the late Willie "Bill" Evans Shealy and the late Nettie Geneva Ballington Shealy. Married in 1964, he was the devoted husband to Carol "Ann" Sites Shealy.

Charlie was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church where faithfully served his Lord and Savior. A member since 1950, Charlie was active in the church, serving three terms on the church council, assisting with the Property Committee, serving as an Usher and Offering Counter, and as a member of the Men's Club.

Charlie had a strong work ethic that began when he was only 12 years old at a local service station in downtown Chapin. He continued his professional career with Ellett Brothers, where he was employed for thirty-one years where he eventually worked his way to the position of Vice President. He also was as a buyer and distributor of guns for eight years.

Charlie had a passion for baseball and became recognized for his skills as a catcher. He played on the American Legion Baseball League and semi-professionally on the Chapin Town Team. He also had an impressive career with the Chapin High School baseball, helping his team achieve a two State Baseball Championships. Charlie was a member of IPTAY and an avid Clemson fan watching the Clemson Tigers and cheering them on at any given opportunity.

In addition to his wife Ann, he is survived by two sons, Gregory (Kim) and Kyle (Jack Sloan), and two grandchildren, Bailey and Bryce. Charlie's surviving siblings are Annette Stuck & Peggy Frick.

Charlie was predeceased by siblings Billy Shealy, Robert "Bob" Shealy, James Carroll "Shot" Shealy, Wendell Shealy, Albert Shealy, John Shealy & Nancy DiMascio.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, 101 E. Boundary Street, Chapin, SC 29036, with a visitation at the church one hour prior starting at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will follow at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charlie's nephews, Frankie, Bruce, Jimmy, Mike, Robby, Patrick, Kenny, Jody, Jamie, Jeff Frick, Jeff Hillard, Jeff Murray, Jose Garcia, David Koon & Chase Hillard.

Honorary Bearer will be his dear friend, Sonny Shealy.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be given to the Mount Horeb Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
