Cheryl Cotney Toscano 68 of Columbia died Saturday October 18 at Palmetto Health Richland. Mrs. Toscano was born on August 5 1946 in Newberry County a daughter of the late Birtrun Birt and Earlene Stockman Cotney. She attended Congaree Presbyterian Church in Columbia and was a member at Bethel Baptist Church in Prosperity. Cheryl retired from the Department of Corrections where she enjoyed her work and interacting with the people she served. Cheryl also served as a caregiver for a number of people. Butterflies were special to her. She enjoyed collecting butterfly items and decorating with them. She is survived by her husband of 18 years Chuck Toscano; step-children Tim Toscano (Sara) of Baltimore MD Fran Baker Palma (Michael) of West Columbia and Chuck Decker of Lawrence MA; grandchildren Jordan Palma Marleigh Toscano Kristopher Decker (Erin) and Tiffany Decker; a great granddaughter Sydney Decker; sisters Kathy Rish of Prosperity and Sandra Worley (Tommy) of Newberry; nephews Jamie Rish Michael Rish Regina Boland Stacy Boland and Zander Cotney; great nieces Crystal Barnes Samantha Rish Tyler Boland and Ali Boland and a great nephew DJ Harris. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her first husband Cliff Baker and a brother Charles Lanier Cotney. Pallbearers will be Jamie Rish Michael Rish Stacy Boland Mike Palma Jim Davis and Lee Foster. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kristopher Decker Chuck Decker Tim Toscano and Mike Brown. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. John White and the Rev. Randall Derrick. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home Chapin. Memorials are suggested to Palmetto Health Foundation Breast Cancer Walk for Life PO Box 247 Columbia SC 29209.
