Obituary

Cindy Beier Draeger, 70, of Newberry died on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at her home surrounded by loved ones. Born on July 11, 1950 in Rockford, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Laurence L. and Mildred Brooks Beier. Cindy had a true zest for life and gave her best in all that she did. Her faith, her family, and her friends being her most significant treasures. Believing her faith life began with baptism, wherever she lived she found a church home. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park, IL, was a founding member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Conyers, Georgia, and was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Newberry. Cindy loved and loved dearly and believed once you became a friend you were family. She never met a stranger and was 'everyone's mama,' caring for many she met over the years. She truly loved people as they were and wanted to do what she could for them when she could. She believed you are not measured by how many friends you have but how many people you have been a friend to. Cindy was a friend to many. After moving to Newberry, she worked at the Newberry Opera House where she enjoyed meeting people, working in the box office, and selling merchandise for 'the celebrities'. Cindy also enjoyed coffee, crocheting, and other crafts. Above all else, her favorite pastime was spending time reading and watching tv snuggled up with her grandson Henry. Cindy had a strong sense of humor and believed 'humor is a gift that we don't realize we need until it makes us laugh or cry- sometimes it's both.' She is survived by her children, Jessica Draeger (Tony Chapman II) of Newberry and Brandon Draeger (Chris Bouknight) of New York; grandson, Henry Chapman of Newberry; sister, Carol Potter (Danny) of TN; and a niece "by love", Wendy Healy of WI. She is also survived by her Godchildren, countless friends and 'adopted' children. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Paul Louis Draeger. Private family services will be conducted by the Rev. Matthew Titus at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
