Obituary

Claude Hunter "Pete" Ragsdale, III went to be with his Lord and Savior September 5, 2024. He was born December 18, 1936 in Blair, SC to Claude Hunter, Jr. and Eileen Coleman Ragsdale.

Pete graduated from Monticello High School, Blair, SC in 1954. He earned a BA degree in economics from Presbyterian College in 1958. He served in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant form 1958-1959.

Following college he was employed with Dun & Bradstreet as a credit reporter and later began a career of 42 years in the auto industry. He retired from Cromley Ford Newberry in 2006.

Since retirement he has served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and also at the Manna House.

Pete was a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church where he served in various capacities. He was an elder and teacher of the adult Sunday School class for over 30 years. He also was a leader of the Lewis Davis Bible Studies group.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Linda Ragsdale and by nephew, Michael Plampin.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Clarkson Ragsdale of Newberry, step-son Michael (Jackie) Huggins of Newberry, step-daughter Betsy (Andrew) Miller of Mount Pleasant, SC and also by his grandchildren Jack (Gabrielle) Huggins, Ryne ( Kayleigh) Huggins, London Huggins, Anna Miller and Megan (Josh) Foster; nieces Debbie (David) Ferguson, Dina (Woody) Peay, Lisa (Gerald) Rollins; nephew Scottie Sanders; and a sister Diane Sanders Campbell.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 8th at 3:30 pm at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, 1211 Calhoun St., Newberry, SC. A committal ceremony will be held immediately following at Rosemont Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jack Huggins, Ryne Huggins, Andrew Miller, David Ferguson, Woody Peay and Johnny Nichols.

Honorary pallbearers will be Spirit of Aveleigh Sunday School Class.

A special thank you to Dementia and Elder Care of Newberry and to Three Oaks Hospice for the love and care given to Pete and Betty.

Memorial contributions may be given to Aveleigh Presbyterian Church.
