Cleo Epting Wise 105 formerly of Herman Wise Road Newberry died Saturday February 28 2015 at Springfield Place. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 PM Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at the St. James Lutheran Church on Wednesday March 4 2015 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Rodney Gunter officiating. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. James Lutheran Church 228 Jalapa Road Newberry SC 29108. She was born on July 16 1909 in Chapin but moved to Newberry as a young bride. She was a daughter of the late Herbert Lake and Mattie Wiggers Epting. Mrs. Wise was a loving mother grandmother great grandmother and great great grandmother. Her greatest pleasure in life was her family. She was passionate about cooking gardening and her ability to grow beautiful Iris. She retired from Greenwood Mills Joanna Plant. She was a devoted member of St. James Lutheran Church the Adult Sunday School Class and remained active as long as her health permitted. She was an honorary member of WELCA Miriam Circle and was an Honorary Life Time member of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary Auxiliary. She attributed her longevity to hard work and her faith and trust in her Lord. She was truly the matriarch of her family. Mrs. Wise is survived by her daughters Carolyn L. Wicker and Margaret L. Neel (Bill); son Richard E. Long. (Norma); daughters-in-law Roxanne L. Fulmer and Sandra E. Long all of Newberry; sister Sara E. Nunamaker of Inman; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; step- children Rebecca W. Fulmer (Donald) Glenda W. Lominick (Richard) Darr Wise all of Newberry; and a number of step-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren; and step- great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husbands Felton Buford Long the father of her children Luke Robertson Harmon and George Herman Wise; sons William Buford Bill Long and Heyward Lionel Long; grandsons Felton Buford Long and Jeffory Buford Long; son-in-law Richard A. Wicker; sisters Ruth E. Wessinger Mary E. Moore Lois E. Bundrick Dorothy E. Hornsby; brother Rev. Dr. Heyward W. Epting; 3 step-sons and; a step-granddaughter. The family would like to thank the staff at Springfield Place for the care that their mother has received over the past years. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
