Clyde Eugene "Buck" Minick, 97, of Newberry, SC, died August 16, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on December 31, 1927, in Stoney Hill, SC, to Gary Alonzo and Annie Laura Hawkins Minick. He grew up in the Stoney Hill community and started working as a driver for Tom's Peanuts as well as the sawmill hauling lumber.

He served in the Air Force Reserves – Air Police for two years – and was an US Army Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion.

Buck was truly a lover of all things golf. He began working for the Country Club of Newberry in 1954, when it was only a 9-hole course. He served as Pro and Manager for 38 years, and was instrumental in developing it to an 18-hole course. He was a member of the SC Professional Golfers Association.  After retirement, he sold and worked on golf carts for many years.

He was married to the love of his life, Donnell Swindler Minick, for 68 years, and every Saturday night, the two enjoyed steak, salad, baked potatoes, toddies, and time together at the fire pit.

Family vacations to the beach and mountains were some of his favorite travels. He had a sweet tooth and would take every opportunity to enjoy some donuts, candy bars, honey buns, or oatmeal pies. He loved to chew cigars and enjoy an evening beverage. He had an amazing mind and could still recall details from years ago.

Above all he was proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He leaves a strong legacy behind and to his family and friends, he will always be legendary.

Buck is survived by his children, Chuck Minick, Patti M. Dominick (Curtis), Roxanne M. Fulmer (Richard), Chip Minick (Wanda); grandchildren, Jason Dominick, Jodi D. Lyons, Brittani A. Kryske, Sidney F. Desai; step grandchild, Payden Taylor; great grandchildren, Kylie, Caroline, Evan, Jacob, Nathan, Logan, and Nolan.

He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and three sisters, Dorotha Schumpert, Starling Rollins Lowman, and Johnette Yarbrough Harmon.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry.

Pallbearers will be Jason Dominick, Curtis Dominick, Richard Fulmer, Leon Whitener, Jodie Lyons, Brittani Kryske, and Sidney Desai.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Country Club of Newberry, Tommy Amick, and John Boone.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Dr. Bernarndo for many years of care and Bernardo Hospice and staff.
