Constance Connie Patterson Harshaw 80 of Newberry died Wednesday January 14 2015 at White Oak Manor. Visitation for Mrs. Harshaw will be from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer with the Rev. Richard Webber officiating. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Born on February 21 1934 in Hickory NC she was the daughter of the late Dr. George R. Patterson and Jessie Broadbent Patterson. Mrs. Harshaw was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne. She worked primarily for the family textile supply business as bookkeeper and later retired from there. Throughout her life she found great joy in living in the country where she learned to love animals especially horses. She was quite the equestrian and enjoyed her years of showing horses competitively. During her early adulthood Connie was both a Sports Car and Rally Car Driver often bettering the times of her male counterparts. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer the American Quarter Horse Association the SC Quarter Horse Association the American Paint Horse Association and the Sports Car Club of America. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Charles Clinton Clint and Paula Harshaw of Newberry and Clay E. and Emily Harshaw of Greensboro NC; brother The Rev. Dr. Henry Patterson (Bobbie) of Hickory NC; granddaughters Vanessa Charlene Harshaw and Morgan Christine Harshaw both of Newberry and Anna Katherine Harshaw and Ashley Reagan Harshaw both of Greensboro NC. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years Charles E. Harshaw and brothers Richard Patterson and Bill Patterson. Active pallbearers will be Jamie Hyatt Richard Fine Darryl Starkey Chad Jenkins Jim Channell and Mark Ebert.
