Curtis B. Koon, Jr., 82, of Newberry, died on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his residence. Born on February 9, 1937 in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Curtis B. Koon, Sr. and Mae Dora Orander Koon. Curtis was the last surviving member of his birth family. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and retired from Shakespeare following thirty years of employment. Mr. Koon was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He and his wife Betty were devoted supporters and fans of Newberry High School athletics, especially the girls and boys basketball teams and the football team. He was also gifted with the ability to fix almost anything that needed fixing, especially if it could be fixed with WD 40 and Duct tape. He loved people and spending time with others, and he believed in commitment. If you started something, you should follow through and finish it. He is survived by his daughters, Jackie Eachues (Tom) and Gina Koon all of Newberry; and two grandchildren, Josh Eachues (Samantha) and Jaci Koon both of Newberry. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Betty Long Koon; brothers, J.O. Koon, W.D. Koon, P.B. Koon and John Boyington; sisters, Callie Rae Berry, Chloe Schumpert and Jessie Foy. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, May 10 at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Al Potter and Mr. Randy Schumpert. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home of Jackie and Tom Eachues, 2200 Main Street and will receive friends at the cemetery following the interment.
