Dale McCarty Brigman, 84, of Newberry, died on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on September 12, 1938 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late DeWitt W. and Janie Cothran McCarty.
Dale was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where she organized and participated in the summer art camp and the church bazaar for many years. She enjoyed reading and painting. Dale was a longtime member of the Friends of the Library, the Powerhouse Arts Group, and a patron of the Newberry Community Players at the Ritz Theater. She was also a member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
After retirement, Dale attended Piedmont Technical College to follow her lifelong dream of earning an Associate's Degree. In May 2006, at the age of 67, she graduated with an Associates of Public Service Degree, holding the highest GPA in her class. Upon graduation, she worked in the Newberry County School District as a substitute teacher.
She is survived by her children, Tracy Werts (Lee) of Newberry, Tommy Brigman (Marie) of Newberry, Cherokee Bellue of Elloree and their sister, Regina Lake; grandchildren, Clyde Livingston (Lynn), Michael Livingston (Jana), Marlys Kinard (Bradley), Joe Welch (Carrie), Crystal Meyer, Jeff Welch, Thad Werts (Samantha), Daniel Werts (Katie), and Mac Werts; sixteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Terri Cromer and Dixie Counts (Shealy); and numerous friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by Thomas R. "Reggie" Brigman and Tommy Cromer.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Jeff O'Dell at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family is gathered at the home of Tracy and Lee Werts.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Mark Davis, the staff of Newberry Internal Medicine, and the staff of Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
