Dallas H. Willingham Sr. 80 of Newberry died Sunday December 14 2003 at the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Mr. Willingham was born in Newberry County a son of the late Obed H. and Etta Burton Willingham. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Hospital Corpsman First Class after 22 and one half years of service having served in both WW II and the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and the S.C. Law Enforcement Officers Association. He was the Chief of Police in Prosperity for six years and was with the Newberry City Police Department for 10 years and retired from the V.C. Summer Plant. Mr. Willingham is survived by his wife of 61 years Jane Suggs Willingham of Newberry; two daughters and a son-in-law Merry Jo and Dr. Tim Stafford of Irmo and Virginia Wheeler of Greenville; two sons and daughters-in-law Dallas H. Jr. and Joan Willingham of Newberry and James H. and Susan Willingham of Prosperity; six grandchildren Ali Bryan Joby Ginny Linda Jo and Cathy; and five great-grandchildren David Caroline Lexi Taylor and Cody. He was predeceased by three brothers Burton Willingham Harry W. Willingham and Andrew Willingham. Funeral service Dallas H. Willingham will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Buck Malcolm. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
