Dallas Evelyn Bedenbaugh Merchant, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Saluda Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born December 11, 1939 in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Otto K. and Sara Lois Buffington Bedenbaugh. She was the widow of Hugh Edward Merchant.
Dallas was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church. She was a hard worker and held a supervisor role at Damon Shirt Factory for 37 years and Newberry Public Schools for 10 years.
She was known as a generous, lighthearted, and compassionate soul. She loved baking, having a pretty yard, Lay's potato chips and Diet Pepsi. She treasured having lunch with her friends and sisters and spending time with her family. Dallas will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends and she will always be remembered in their hearts.
Dallas is survived by her daughters, Lisa Merchant Johnson (Jonathan) and Amy Merchant Hawkins; grandchildren, Ashley Nakwaasah (Wesley), Kelsey Hollins (Carter), Kirsti Yoder (Brandon) and Hunter Hawkins; great grandchildren, Liam, and Declan Yoder; and Wesley Nakwaasah, Jr.; uncle, W.L. Buffington; sisters, Brenda Berry of Saluda, and Molly Martin (Jimmy) of Leesville; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Gerald Bedenbaugh; and sisters, Leoris Bedenbaugh West, June Bedenbaugh Rister and Esther Bedenbaugh Cole.
The family invites you to join them on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 5-7 pm at Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College Street, Newberry, SC 29108 to celebrate Dallas's life.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, 3:00 PM at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church in Newberry by the Rev. Leon Rawl. A procession to the West End Cemetery for interment will follow.
Memorials are suggested to Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, 1307 Drayton St., Newberry, SC 29108.
