Dana E. Perry, 78, of Newberry, died Monday, October 18, 2021.
He was born in Jacksonville, FL on July 21, 1943 a son of the late Guy M. and Josephine Wester Perry. He later moved to Miami, FL in 1945.
1961 Dana graduated from Southwest Sr. High School and later earned his Associates Degree from Miami Dade Jr. College.
In 1962, Dana enlisted in the US Air Force. He was stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Base in Marquette, MI. He played three years on the Air Force Golf Team. He earned his honorable discharge in 1965.
In 1967, he attended the first Professional Golf Association (PGA) Business School. His career as a PGA Non-member Professional began in Key West, FL in 1974 at Key West Country Club. In 1975, Dana and his family moved to Prosperity, SC, where he became the Pro-Manager of Mid-Carolina Country Club. He spent ten years there where he and his family became a part of MCCC family. Five years of his career were spent at Tazewell CCC, Pounding Mill, VA. 1995-1997 he was Pro-Manager of the Country Club of Newberry, Newberry, SC. From 2006-2013 he was PGA Golf Professional of Santee Country Club, Santee, SC.
In 1982 and 1983, he became chairman of the Carolinas Section Jr. Golf Program. 1993, he earned election to the Membership of the Professional Golfer Association of America as a Class A-1 Head Professional. He became a member of the Quarter Century Club of the P.G.A. in 2018. Dana loved the game of golf. His professional goal was always to instill this love in juniors. He became a Life Member of the PGA.
Dana was a patriot and a veteran - he loved his God, family, and country. He combined his patriotism and his passion for golf by holding three Folds of Honor Golf Tournaments. August of 2021, he raised money for the Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation.
Dana was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church of Columbia, SC.
Dana is survived by his wife, Dianne Wicker Perry; step-son, Joseph (Jennifer) Pinder, and children, Jordan and Joey of Raleigh NC; step-daughter, LoriAne (William) Lester and daughters, Kaylee of Tazewell, VA, Ashley Fisher, and children, Kyler, Parker, Carter of Ripley, WV, and Kayce (Jordy) Watson, and son, Austin of Columbus, GA.
In addition to his parents, Guy and Josephine Perry, he was preceded in death by his sister, Iona Laura Perry and his beloved son, Phillip Andrew Perry.
Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
