Danny "Big Dan" Richard Metts

Danny “Big Dan” Richard Metts, 70, of Little Mountain, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, while surrounded by loved ones. Born in Newberry, South Carolina, on February 25, 1956, he was a son to the late Henry Richard and Betty M. Wicker.

He was known as “Big Dan” to most, not only for his stature, but also his big heart and larger than life personality.

Generous by nature, he was always giving of himself to the people around him and was a one-of-a-kind friend to many. He cherished his family deeply and was a devoted father and a sweet and loving husband. The outdoors made him feel the most at home. He cherished many precious memories of camping, hunting, and fishing with his family and friends. He loved to live life on two wheels, especially cruising through the mountains.

His love, generosity, and jovial nature will be remembered by all who knew him.

Danny is survived by his wife, of 49 years, Cheryl Ann Whitman Metts; daughters, Brandy Metts (Jeff), Crystal Metts (Landon); grandchildren, Brianna Brooks and Austin Brooks; and a great-grandson. He is also survived by his sister, Terry Gearhart (Frank).

In addition to his parents, Danny was predeceased by his brother, Wyman Metts.

In keeping with Danny’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
