Obituary

David L. Crumpton, 85, of Newberry, died Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born on March 10, 1933 in Newberry, he was a son of the late John and Ruby Wicker Crumpton. He was married to the late Evelyn Smith Crumpton for 60 years. David was a man of incredible faith, a very active member of College Street Baptist Church where he had served as deacon. He was also a member of the Mary Warren Sunday school class; sang in the choir and served as an usher. While words are often inadequate to describe someone, David will be remembered as a kind-hearted, loving and pleasant man who was always offering a helping hand to others. He was one who never met a stranger and a man who valued the times he brought smiles to the faces of others. He remained a faithful Atlanta Braves fan and was known to take advantage of every opportunity to fish. He is survived by his daughters, Kitty (Al) Roberts of Seneca, Deborah Lynn Crumpton of Newberry and Janie Scarboro of Greenwood; sons, Olin L. (Robbie) Crumpton of Newberry and George (Lori) Crumpton of Roebuck; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by siblings, John D. Crumpton, William O. Crumpton, Mary Ellen May, Merlee Bedenbaugh and Pauline Koon. The family will be at his residence, 1835 Radio St. Visitation will be on Monday, January 14, 2019 from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College St. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 15, at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev.
